Abstract: A field device for an industrial process includes a digital isolator which electrically divides the field device into a primary side for low voltage electronics from a secondary side. A device power supply located in the secondary side is configured to provide power to a process control device which monitors or controls a process variable of the industrial process. A latching relay located in the secondary side couples to the process control device and the device power supply and has a set input to responsively couple the device power supply to the process control device and a reset input which causes the latching relay to enter an electrically open state to thereby disconnect the device power supply from the process control device. A controller located in the primary side is configured to generate a switch signal. The digital isolator extends between the primary side and the secondary side and couples to the switch signal from the controller and provides a digital output on the secondary side in response to the switch signal. Edge triggered circuitry couples to the digital output of the digital isolator and provides a pulse output to the reset input of the latching relay in response the digital output of the digital isolator.

Abstract: A wireless process variable transmitter for use in an industrial process includes a process variable sensor configured to sense a process variable of the industrial process and provide a process variable sensor output. A battery power source includes a plurality of battery power banks each having a primary cell battery, a low voltage cut-off circuit electrically connected to the primary cell battery which provides an electrical connection to the primary cell battery while a voltage of the primary cell battery is above a threshold, and an ideal diode having an input electrically connected to the primary cell battery through the low voltage cut-off and providing a power bank output. A power sharing node has an input connected to the battery power bank output of each of the plurality of battery power banks and having a shared power output which provides power to circuitry of the wireless process variable transmitter.

Abstract: A process transmitter includes a process variable sensor, a test circuit, a switch and a controller. The process variable sensor includes a sensor output that is indicative of a sensed process variable. The test circuit is configured to detect a condition of the process variable sensor. The switch is configured to selectively connect the test circuit to the process variable sensor and disconnect the test circuit from the process variable sensor. The controller is configured to obtain a measurement of the process variable, control the switch, detect a condition of the process variable sensor by comparing the sensor output when the test circuit is connected to the process variable sensor to the sensor output when the test circuit is disconnected from the process variable sensor, and communicate the condition in the measurement to an external control unit.

Abstract: An industrial process field device includes an active component, a latching relay, a controller, a relay drive, and a reset circuit. The active component may be a sensor configured to sense a process parameter, or a control device configured to control a process of the industrial process. The controller is configured to generate a switch signal, and the relay drive is configured to set the latching relay in one of a set state and a reset state based on the switch signal. The reset circuit is configured to set the latching relay to the reset state in response to an interruption of electrical power to the relay drive.

Abstract: An industrial process field device includes an active component, a switch, a switch monitor, and a controller. The active component may be a sensor configured to sense a process parameter, or a control device configured to control a process of the industrial process. The switch is electrically coupled to first and second terminals and is configured to electrically connect the first and second terminals when in a closed state, and electrically disconnect the first and second terminals when in an open state. The switch monitor is configured to detect a current state of the switch corresponding to the closed or open state, and generate a state output indicating the current state. The controller is configured to set the switch in the open or closed state, and generate a notification based on the state output that indicates at least one of the current state of the switch and a condition of the switch.
