    Abstract: An abrasive article includes a bonded abrasive body having abrasive particles contained within a bond material. The abrasive particles include silicon carbide and are essentially free of carbon-based and boron-based sintering aid materials. In an embodiment, the bond material can include a phenolic resin. In another embodiment, the bonded abrasive body can include an oxide phase disposed interstitially between the silicon carbide abrasive particles. In an additional embodiment, the abrasive particles can consist essentially of silicon carbide and aluminum oxide in a ratio of silicon carbide to alumina of at least about 8:1.

    Abstract: Inorganic particulate materials may be blended with polymeric materials to form composite materials, and may be used as a filler, reinforcement, colorant, or radiation absorber. Inorganic particulate materials may be used in elastomeric composites for manufacturing tires, thereby reducing the problem of rolling resistance. Difficulties are experienced in dispersion of inorganic nanoparticles with high aspect ratios in non-polar polymers. The present invention provides a dispersible filler and composite material formed thereof and methods of making the same. In a particular embodiment, a particulate material includes alumina hydrate. The particulate material has a 500 psi Compaction Volume Ratio of at least about 4.0 cc/cc.
