Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly durable reversible recording medium which shows outstanding repeatable recording properties and light resistance. SOLUTION: The reversible recording medium has at least one of rewritable layers 31 to 33 formed in the planar direction of a support substrate 1. The rewritable layer is constituted of photothermal conversion layers 11 to 13 containing, in a resin, a photothermal conversion material which generates heat by absorbing near infrared rays within a specific wavelength region; and recording layers 17 to 19 containing, in a resin, a thermal color developing composition which reversibly changes to two colorless/colored states in response to a temperature change, these two different layers being formed through intermediate layers 14 to 16. Materials for the constituent resins of the intermediate layers 14 to 16, the photothermal conversion layers 11 to 13 and the recording layers 17 to 19 are selected so as not to allow the resins to be compatible with each other. Thus these layers are present in a state wherein they are mutually separated and independent. Also, the recording method using the reversible recording medium is provided. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed recording method to reversible multicolor recording media, to and from which signals can be repeatedly recorded and erased. SOLUTION: Recording layers 11-13, each of which includes one of a plurality of reversible thermosensitive color developing compositions having developing color tones different from one another, are separatingly and laminatingly formed to the planar direction of a supporting board 1. In a plurality of the reversible thermosensitive color developing compositions, the reversible multicolor recording media each including a photothermally converting material generating heat through the absorption of infrared radiation in wavelength ranges different from one another are employed. First of all, the whole recording layers are put in advance under decolorized states through the application of heating treatment. Next, heating treatment is applied to the recording layers in the order that no color state change develops. Then, in response to the desired image information, exposure is executed through the irradiation of infrared radiation on the wavelength region selected in response to that selected in the recording layer so as to heat the recording layer in order to selectively form color, resulting in recording image information.
