Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably modulate a semiconductor laser chip by preventing physical breakage of the chip caused by the diffusion of a surface material into the solder used in the joining sections of a semiconductor laser, heatsink, and sub-mount.
SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser device is constituted of a specific metallic surface material and a specific bonding material in a state where the properties of physical mutations are matched to each other between the surface metallic material of an LD chip 1 and a bonding material and between the bonding material and the surface metallic material of the sub-mount 2 when heat is generated by the modulating operation of the LD chip 1 in the junction interfaces among the LD chip 1, heatsink 3, and sub-mount 2.

An LD is driven by a driving signal superimposed by an adder 35 to perform recording to an optical disk with laser beams emitted in an optimal condition in accordance with a recording condition to reduce heat interference between the pit and land. Thus, in recording at a fast rate, pit/land formation capable of yielding a sufficient margin is made possible and high-quality data recording is realized by reducing recording jitter and recording power.
