Abstract:
A full cone liquid spray nozzle is provided. The spray nozzle includes a nozzle body having a discharge orifice at a downstream end and an inlet at an upstream end for connection to a liquid supply. A liquid flow passageway extends through the nozzle body communicating between the inlet and the discharge orifice. A vane is disposed in the liquid flow passageway upstream of the discharge orifice. The vane has a plurality of V-shaped passageways therein. Each V-shaped passageway extends inward at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the vane between an upstream face and downstream face of the vane. A whirl and mixing chamber defined by the liquid flow passageway is arranged between the vane and the discharge orifice.
Abstract:
An air assisted spray nozzle assembly, having particular utility in sprayin g liquid coolants in continuous metal casting systems, which is adapted for operation with substantially reduced air consumption. The nozzle body includes a pre-- atomizing unit that has a relatively small sized pressurized air inlet, a liquid impingement post with a uniquely configured impingement face for enhancing liquid breakdown and intermixing with a pressurized air stream from the air inlet, and an expansion chamber configured to reduce eddy currents that detract from efficient pre--atomization of the liquid. The spray nozzle further includes an elongat ed spray tip supporting barrel adapted for releasable mounting in the pre-atomizing head in predetermined rotational orientation relative to its longitudinal axis for properly receiving and supporting a removable spray tip.

An air assisted spray nozzle assembly, having particular utility in spraying liquid coolants in continuous metal casting systems, which is adapted for operation with substantially reduced air consumption. The nozzle body (24) includes a pre-atomizing unit that has a relatively small sized pressurized air inlet (26), a liquid impingement post (38) with a uniquely configured impingement face for enhancing liquid breakdown and intermixing with a pressurized air stream from the air inlet, and an expansion chamber (25) configured to reduce eddy currents that detract from efficient pre-atomization of the liquid. The spray nozzle further includes an elongated spray tip (22) supporting barrel (21) adapted for releasable mounting in the pre-atomizing head in predetermined rotational orientation relative to its longitudinal axis for properly receiving and supporting a removable spray tip.

Abstract:
A spray nozzle (12) particularly useful for directing a liquid coolant onto continously cast metal shapes. The spray nozzle (12) includes a nozzle body (18) having a liquid flow passageway (21) communicating with a discharge orifice (22) and a vane (30) disposed within the passageway (21) upstream of the discharge orifice (22). The vane (30) has a central orifice (35) for creating an axial flow stream and a plurality of circumferentially spaced angled passages (36) for tangentially directing a plurality of liquid flow streams which create liquid turbulence, breakdown and intermixing with axial flow stream such that liquid emitted from the discharge orifice (22) is adapted for more uniform cooling of a cast metal notwithstanding changes in liquid pressure commensurate with changes in the rate at which the metal is cast.
