Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for preparing optically active phenylalanine which comprises resolving mixture of a complex of D-phenylalanine and optically active mandelic acid and a complex of L-phenylalanine and optically active mandelic acid in a solvent containing hydrochloric acid, carboxylic acid, phosphoric acid or a salt thereof to obtain the complex having lower solubility, and removing said optically active mandelic acid from the obtained complex to obtain an optically active phenylalanine. In the case of resolving DL-phenylalanine by the process according to the present invention, the amount of mother liquor used in resolution can be made to about 1/2 to 1/6 as compared to the amount of mother liquor of which the acidic compound or the salt thereof is not used in the resolution. Accordingly, the process according to the present invention is extremely profitable as an industrial process for producing an optically active phenylalanine.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a semiconductor substrate and a method of manufacturing the same. In a semiconductor manufacturing process for a Si single crystal wafer or the like, before the step of mirror polishing, the rear surface of a Si wafer is ground to form a damaged layer having a certain fixed thickness, the Si wafer is subsequently etched by chemical etching if desired, and the rear surface is further formed with an oxide film by thermal oxidation if desired, whereby a semiconductor substrate exhibiting an intense gettering effect is manufactured.
Abstract:
Two optically active amino acid-mandelic acid complexes are obtained by interacting in a solvent under pH conditions of 1.0-4.0 an amino acid expressed by a general formula ##STR1## (in which R represents a methyl group, an ethyl group or a methylthioethyl group) and mandelic acid, one of the acids being an optically active substance and the other being a racemic modification, and optically resolving the resulting complexes into two diastereoisomers by using solubility difference therebetween. The optically active complexes are each decomposed by means of an acid, a strongly acidic ion-exchange resin, or a weakly basis ion-exchange resin to obtain optically active amino acids or optically active mandelic acid.
Abstract:
A broadcast interactive television service provides broadcast content received through a broadcast and supplemental content retrieved over a network. The broadcast content may include a broadcast markup language (BML) file which is parsed to provide an interface to the user. If the BML file contains information regarding the location or other information for supplemental content, the supplemental content can be retrieved from over a network and provide through the interface. Once presentation of the supplemental content has completed, the state of the interface may return to that associated with the BML file.
Abstract:
A hydraulic automatic tensioner for adjusting the tension of a bell includes a first member with a piston formed integrally, a second member combined with the first member and axially movable relative to the first member, a cylinder formed integrally with the second member, together defining a fluid-reservoir chamber for hydraulic fluid, axially slidably receiving the piston, and a spring pushing the members apart. The piston and cylinder form a pressure chamber filled with hydraulic fluid. The second member has a leak passage through which fluid flows from the pressure chamber into the fluid-reservoir chamber. A control valve is placed in the leak passage, inhibiting flow of fluid from the pressure chamber into the fluid-reservoir chamber. A control device moves the control valve to close the leak passage when activated and makes it ineffective when deactivated so that the pressure chamber communicates with the fluid-reservoir chamber via the leak passage.
Abstract:
An automatic stop and start control system for a multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine mounted on a vehicle is disclosed. The automatic stop and start control system performs a control for automatically stopping and restarting the engine according to operating conditions of the vehicle and the engine. Fuel is provided to at least one of the cylinders of the engine when an engine stop condition for stopping the engine is satisfied. Subsequently, the fuel supply to all of the cylinders of the engine is stopped. The fuel supply to at least one of the cylinders is immediately carried out at the time an engine restart condition for restarting the engine is satisfied.
Abstract:
An electric vehicle body has a curved portion provided with an opening. A storage compartment communicates with an inside of the body through the opening. A lid is disposed along the curved surface of the body to pivot about hinges to open and close the storage compartment. In one embodiment, each hinge includes a hinge pin provided on a side wall of the lid and a slotted aperture formed in a side wall of the storage box. The hinge pin is fitted into the long aperture in such a manner as to rotate and slide within the slotted aperture. As the lid is being opened, an edge of the rear cover proximate the lid comes into abutment with an edge of the lid to push the lid and hinge pin along a longitudinal direction of the long aperture.
Abstract:
A method of treatment for diabetic neuropathy using combined administration of a formulation including as an active ingredient a prostaglandin I derivative, especially a prostaglandin I.sub.2 derivative with an anti-diabetic agent is applied to hypofunction of motor nerve and sensory nerve to which conventional anti-diabetic agents do not provide sufficient treatments, with nerve conduction velocities improved.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a highly noiseless magnet roller capable of reducing occurrence of noise upon operation as much as possible. The magnet roller includes a magnet main body and a shaft portion projecting from each or either of both ends of the magnet main body, wherein the magnet main body and the shaft portion are integrally molded from a bond magnet composition in which a magnetic powder is dispersed in a resin binder. In this magnet roller, the roundness of the shaft portion is specified to be in a range of 30 .mu.m or less.
Abstract:
A survey system is provided having GPS receivers and using a global positioning system. A reference station main body is provided for surveying; and a plurality of GPS survey apparatuses are provided. They include at least a reference station and a measuring station. The reference station main body has a coordinate composite conversion unit which composes a composite coordinate value of a single coordinate system from GPS data input via an input portion and reference station data measured at the reference station main body. An output device outputs the coordinate value composed by the coordinate composite conversion unit.
