Abstract: Disclosed are detergent compositions comprising: (a) an alpha -sulfonated alkyl ester of a fatty acid having an average of about 12-16 carbon atoms; (b) an anionic surfactant; and (c) a nonionic surfactant, and methods for preparing such compositions. Also disclosed are methods for inhibiting redeposition of soil on fabric, in which the fabric is treated with a detergent comprising a salt of an alpha -sulfonated fatty acid having from about 8-22 carbon atoms.
