    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the handling atmosphere of an arom. diamine, by applying an arom. diamine directly to a polymn. stage without separating said arom. diamine from the manafacturing process of an arom. polyamic acid in the production of said arom. polyamic acid for paints by reacting an arom. diamine with an arom. tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. CONSTITUTION:An arom. dinitro compd. or an arom. mononitroamino compd. is catalytically reduced in the presence of a heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst in a polar amide solvent which does not interfer with a polymn. reaction. Water concomitantly formed is removed by distillation to obtain an arom. diamine soln. having a water content of 300-3,000ppm. The arom. diamine soln. is reacted with an arom. tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride of formula I (wherein Ar is a tetravelent arom. group) in a polar amide solvent to obtain an arom. polyamic acid soln. for paints.
