Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the subject compound useful as a raw material for surfactants, buffers, etc., in a good yield, by reacting an N-alkylaminobis(ethanesulfonic acid) with an alkylamine, while utilizing the N-alkylaminobis (ethanesulfonic acid) by-produced in the reaction again as one of the starting materials. CONSTITUTION:An N-alkylaminobis(ethanesulfonic acid) of formula: RN(CH2CH2 SO3M)2 (R is 1-6C lower alkyl; M is H, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal) is reacted with an alkylamide of formula: R-NH2 preferably in a molar ratio of 1:2-35 at 150-300 deg.C to produce the subject compound. The N-alkylaminobis(ethane sulfonic acid) by-produced in the reaction can be again utilized as the raw material for the useful-N-alkylaminoethanesulfonic acid.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the subject compound useful as a catalyst for foaming polyurethanes and having excellent storage stability by a simple operation in a high purity by reacting dimethylaminopropylamine with formaldehyde. CONSTITUTION:Formaldehyde is fed into and reacted with an aqueous solution of dimethylaminopropylamine (hereinafter referred to as DMAPA) having a concentration of 20-98wt.% at 10-120 deg.C, preferably 60-95 deg.C, for 0.5-8hr to provide the objective 1,3,5-tris(N,N-dimethylaminopropyl)hexahydro-S-triazine. The formaldehyde is used in a molar ratio of 0.95-1.0 based on the DMAPA. Since the reaction can be performed within a temperature range capable of sufficiently cooling the reaction solution with industrial cooling water, general equipments can be used and the production of by-products can be greatly reduced.
