Abstract:
The anti-wear properties of lubricating oil compositions containing overbased calcium sulfonate are improved when a metal salt of an alkyl catechol ester of dithiophosphoric acid is added to the oil. Oil compositions containing this combination are useful as crankcase lubricants.
Abstract:
Lubricating oils containing oil soluble C.sub.10 -C.sub.30 alkane-1,2-diols have been found to reduce fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition of improved rust inhibitory capability contains a small amount of the sulfate of an oxyalkylenated alcohol or phenol having a molecular weight of about 500-5,000.
Abstract:
Borated alkyl catechols can be stabilized by the addition of certain defined monoalkylamines.Lubricating oils containing a borated alkyl catechol-monoalkylamine complex are effective in reducing oxidation, wear and deposits in an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed toward a method for preparing Group II metal overbased sulfurized alkylphenols. In particular, the present invention employs a sulfurization catalyst in the preparation of Group II metal overbased sulfurized alkylphenols. Use of a sulfurization catalyst in this preparation results in a product generally characterized as having lower crude sediment, a higher Total Base Number and lower viscosity than a similar product prepared without using a sulfurization catalyst.

Lubricating oils containing borated alkyl catechols-succinimide complex are effective in reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
The anti-wear properties of lubricating oil compositions containing overbased calcium sulfonate are improved when a complex of a zinc salt of a cyclic hydrocarbyl dithiophosphoric acid of 2,4-pentanediol and a succinimide is added to the oil. Oil compositions containing this combination are useful as crankcase lubricants.
Abstract:
Lubricating oils containing oil soluble C.sub.8 -C.sub.28 alkane-1,2-diols have been found to reduce brake noise for oil-immersed disc brakes.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a lubricating oil additive composition which imparts improved oxidation properties to crankcase lubricants which comprises:(1) an antioxidant selected from aromatic or alkyl sulfides and polysulfides, sulfurized olefins, sulfurized carboxylic acid esters and sulfurized ester-olefins, and(2) an oil-soluble brominated hydrocarbon containing at least 3 carbon atoms.Lubricating oil compositions containing this additive composition are also disclosed.
