    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled carbosilane capable of forming good inorganic moldings such as continuous fiber and coating films by a baking treatment and useful as a sintering binder or an impregnant, derived from a polycarbosilane and titanium alkoxide. CONSTITUTION:A new polytitanocarbosilane is obtained from (A) a polycarbosilane, number-average MW of 200-10,000, having a main chain skeleton of formulaI(wherein R is H, a lower alkyl or a phenyl) and (B) titanium alkoxide of formula II, wherein R' is a 1-20C alkyl. Said polytitanocarbosilane has a number-average MW of 700-100,000, and is in a crosslinked state in which part of the silicon atoms are bonded to the titanium atoms through oxygen atoms, has a ratio of the total number of SiCH2 units to that of TiO units of 2:1- 200:1, and includes a monofunctional polymer (e.g., formula III) through a tetrafunctional polymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a novel polytitanocarbosilane capable of giving a continuous fiber or film having improved properties by heating and calcining, by reacting a specific polycarbosilane with a titanium alkoxide in a specified proportion. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polycarbosilane having a number-average molecular weight of 200-10,000 and a main chain skeleton expressed by formula I (R is H, lower alkyl or phenyl) is reacted with (B) a titanium alkoxide expressed by the formula Ti(OR')4 (R' is 1-20C alkyl) at a ratio between the total number of the structural units of -TiO- in the component (B) and the total number of the structural units expressed by formula II in the component (A) of 2:1-200:1 in an inert atmosphere under heating to link the silicon atoms in the polycarbosilane to the titanium atoms in the titanium alkoxide via the oxygen atoms and give the aimed polytitanocarbosilane having a number-average molecular weight of 700-100,000.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The reaction between a specific polycarbosilane and an organozirconium compound affords the titled compound giving a formed product containing SiC-ZrC by calcination with high mechanical properties and oxidation resistance at high temperatures. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polycarbosilane having the main chain skelton of the formula (R is H, lower alkyl, phenyl) and a number-average molecular weight of 200-10,000 and (B) an organozirconium compound of ZrX4 (X is 1-20C alkoxy, phenoxy, acetylacetoxy) are combined so that the ratio of the total number of -SiCH2- structural units in component A to the total number of -ZrO- structural units in component B becomes 2/1-200/1 and they are made to react by heating in an inert atmosphere to bind at least a part of Si atoms in component A through oxygen atoms with Zr atoms in component B, thus producing the objective compound of 700-100,000 number-average molecular weight.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The reaction between polycarbosilane and a specific polyzirconosiloxane gives an organometallic copolymer, which is made into fiber, made infusible and calcined to produce complex carbide fiber with much better physical properties and oxidation resistance than SiC fiber. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polycarbosilane with a major chain skelton of formulaI and (B) a polyzirconosiloxane with the major chain skelton consisting of zirconoxane of formula II and siloxane of formula III at a ratio of 30/1-1/30 are mixed so that the amount ratio of the mojor chain skeltons of the former to the latter comes in the range 100/1-1/100. The mixture is heated in an organic solvent in an inert atmosphere to give the crosslinked organometallic copolymer. The solution is made into fiber, made infusible and calcined in vacuum or in an atmosphere of an inert gas or a reducing gas at 800-1,800 deg.C.
