Abstract:
A method of forming a metal component with two and three dimensional internal functionally graded alloy composition gradients includes forming the component by a powder based layer-by-layer additive manufacturing process. The areal composition distribution of each powder layer is determined by simultaneously depositing different powders and powder mixtures through a mixing valve attached to a single nozzle during powder deposition. The layers are then sintered with a directed energy source to form a forging preform. The preform is then forged to form a component.
Abstract:
A heat exchanger system for a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of fins; and an additively manufactured heat transfer tube that extends through the plurality of fins, the additively manufactured heat transfer tube follows a non-linear path though said plurality of fins.
Abstract:
Plated polymeric gas turbine engine parts and methods for fabricating lightweight plated polymeric gas turbine engine parts are disclosed. The parts include a polymeric substrate plated with one or more metal layers. The polymeric material of the polymeric substrate may be structurally reinforced with materials that may include carbon, metal, or glass. The polymeric substrate may also include a plurality of layers to form a composite layup structure.
Abstract:
A fluid dispensing apparatus that may be additive manufactured as one unitary piece and may be a fuel injector for a gas turbine engine includes a radial displacement bellows having an outer surface that faces and may be exposed to a surrounding environment and an interior surface that faces and may define at least in-part a flowpath extending along a centerline. The radial displacement bellows is constructed and arranged to move between an expanded state when a pressure differential between the environment and the flowpath is low to a restricted state when the pressure differential is high.
Abstract:
A septum-tied tube pack is provided that includes a first outer wall formed by a multiple of first connected radiuses. A second outer wall is formed by a multiple of second connected radiuses. A first end radius connects the first outer wall and the second outer wall. A second end radius connects the first outer wall and the second outer wall. A multiple of septum elements extend between the first outer wall and the second outer wall. A gas turbine engine is also provided that includes an engine case structure and a fluid conduit mounted to the engine case structure. The fluid conduit includes a septum-tied tube pack section.
Abstract:
A additive manufacturing system includes a containment housing operable to form a containment chamber with a low pressure operating atmosphere and an additive manufacturing build housing within said containment housing.
Abstract:
A duct includes an upstream segment and a downstream segment mounted to the upstream segment. A heat shield extends from one of the upstream and downstream segments. A sealing land extends from the other of the upstream and downstream segments, and is configured to engage with the heat shield. The heat shield protects the interface between the upstream and downstream segments of the ducts.
Abstract:
Components may be manufactured by co-extruding a polymer filament and a fiber filament from a nozzle. The polymer filament and the fiber filament may be heated within the nozzle, which may couple the polymer filament to the fiber filament. The co-extruded filament may result in long reinforcing fibers which provide strength to the components.
Abstract:
A method is provided involving an additive manufacturing system. This method includes a step of forming a first fluid conduit using the additive manufacturing system. The method also includes a step of providing a fluid coupling. The fluid coupling includes the first fluid conduit and a second fluid conduit. The first fluid conduit is connected to and fluidly coupled with the second fluid conduit. The first fluid conduit has a first configuration. The second fluid conduit has a second configuration that is different than the first configuration.
Abstract:
A tool includes a flexible section; a head that extends form the flexible section; and an exciter within the head. A method of additively manufacturing a component including burrowing a tool into a conglomerated powder within an internal passage of an additively manufactured component, the tool vibrating in a manner to facilitate removal of the conglomerated powder.
