Abstract:
The present disclosure provides devices related to aircraft engine fan assemblies (300) and blade lock retainers (210). In various embodiments, a blade lock retainer (210) is formed from sheet metal and comprises an annular ring portion (211), an outer retainer tab portion (212), and an inner tab portion (213). In various embodiments, the outer retainer tab portion (212) is disposed on an outer circumference of the annular ring portion (211), oriented substantially perpendicular to the annular ring portion (211), and extends in an aft direction from the annular ring portion (211). In various embodiments, the inner retainer tab portion (213) is disposed on an inner circumference of the annular ring portion (211) and radially aligned with the outer retainer tab portion (212), oriented substantially perpendicular to the annular ring portion (211), and extends in a forward direction from the annular ring portion (211).
Abstract:
A fan (42) is provided. The fan (42) may comprise a fan blade (101) and a blade platform (102) coupled to the fan blade (101). The blade platform (102) may be a thermoplastic. A fan blade platform (102) is also provided. The fan blade platform (102) may comprise a first platform half (104) comprising a slot (114) at a first end of the first platform half (104) and a first receiving member (120) at a second end of the first platform half (104) opposite the first end of the first platform half (104). A second platform half (106) may comprise a hook (112). The second platform half (106) may also include a second receiving member (118) at a second end of the second platform half (106) opposite the first end of the second platform half (106) with the hook (112) configured to interface with the slot (114). A pin (116) may be configured to pass through the first receiving member (120) and the second receiving member (118).
Abstract:
A composite fan case has a generally cylindrical composite shell, at least one band of sacrificial composite material circumscribing an outer surface of the composite shell, and a metallic rail mounted on the band of sacrificial material. Also disclosed is a method of construction the aforementioned case.

Abstract:
A fan case (10) has an annular outer wall (12) with a plurality of fan case bolt holes (32) there through. Bushings (38) are inserted into the fan case bolt holes (32) and are dimensioned to define an annular gap (52) between the bolt hole inner surface (50) and the bushing outer surface (48). An adhesive material (54) is disposed within each annular gap (52) between the bushing (38) and the corresponding fan case bolt hole (32), with the adhesive material forming a liquid shim (54) separating the bushing outer surface (48) from the bolt hole inner surface (50).
Abstract:
A recirculation seal for use within a gas turbine engine. The recirculation seal includes a first seal base, including a first seal base axis. The recirculation seal further includes a second seal base, including a second seal base axis The recirculation seal further includes a resilient bulb member coupled to the first seal base. The resilient bulb member includes an exterior bulb wall and an interior bulb wall, wherein the interior bulb wall defines an interior space.
Abstract:
A blade containment system includes a plurality of circumferentially-arranged rotatable blades. Each blade has a blade compliance. An annular containment structure is arranged around the rotatable blades. The containment structure includes a liner that has a liner compliance. The blade compliance and the liner compliance are configured such that a strain induced on a respective one of the blades upon impact with the liner is less than a threshold critical strain beyond which the rotatable blades fracture.
