Abstract:
A power strip adapted to support power status reporting as well as the issuing of commands to control functional operations of the appliances. The power strip may receive a command from a remote control (for example transmitted via radio frequency or wired connection) and, in turn, issue a corresponding command (for example transmitted via infrared) to one or more appliances to cause the one or more appliances to perform a functional operation.
Abstract:
A method for determining a power source voltage level of a power source in a system in which the power source is connected to a microcontroller. A charging circuit is in direct communication with a pin of the microcontroller and the power source voltage level is determined by charging the charging circuit using a constant voltage level and determining a time when the charging circuit attains a voltage level sufficient to transition the pin of the microcontroller from a state corresponding to a logic "0" to a state corresponding to a logic "1." The determined time and a predetermined relationship between the power source voltage level and an input port transition voltage value of the microcontroller is then used to determine the power source voltage level of the power source.
Abstract:
A system and method for using a controllable appliance to report an inoperable state of a controlling device. The appliance is caused to repeatedly determine, at a first predetermined timed interval, if a wireless notification signal, repeatedly transmitted by the controlling device at a second predetermined timed interval, has been received from the controlling device. When the wireless notification signal has not been received from the controlling device within the first predetermined timed interval, the appliance is caused to issue a status notification that the controlling device is in an inoperable state.
Abstract:
A media access device such as, for example, a cable or satellite set top box (STB), a digital video recorder (DVR), a personal computer, and/or a digital media receivers automatically optimizes an order of content choices presented in a content listing, such as a program guide display, favorite channel display, and/or a recording listing display based on the past viewing and/or recording history of a current user.
Abstract:
A server device receives identity data retrieved from an appliance through use of a physical and logical interconnection referenced to a standard. The identity data is used at the server device to identify within a database having a plurality of appliance records, each of which is cross-referenced to an appliance, an appliance record having data in one or more record fields which matches the identity data retrieved from the appliance. A codeset identifier associated with the identified appliance record is then used to select from a plurality of codesets a codeset for use in configuring the portable device to command functional operations of the appliance.
Abstract:
A system for use in controlling operating functions of a controllable device includes a hand-held device and an intermediate device in communication with the hand-held device and the controllable device. The hand-held device is adapted to receive a gesture based input and to transmit a signal having data representative of the gesture based input. The intermediate device has programming for translating the data representative of the gesture based input in a signal received from the hand-held device into a command signal to be communicated to the controllable device wherein the command signal has a format appropriate for controlling an operating function of the controllable device that is associated with the gesture based input.
Abstract:
A system and method for enabling set up of a controlling device capable of controlling a plurality of appliances, via an interactive instruction set and associated programming. The programming is accessible by a STB or other controllable appliance and is configured to appropriately display interactive instructions and prompts to a user during a user initiated set up procedure for configuration of another controllable device (e.g., DVD, VCR, DVR, etc) available to the user. Appropriate set up data, generally in the form of command library codes, is displayed to the user by the interactive instruction set and associated programming for entry and trial by the user in set up of the desired appliance(s).
Abstract:
A control device (100a) using a light source energy (320), such as light energy, to provide the controlling device with a use interface having multiple, different visual appearance.
Abstract:
Media rendering system including a remote control device (10) and associated docking station (700). The remote control device (10) interfaces with a remote server (90) to stream media content for local and/or external playback. The remote control device (10) may interface with a docking station (700) to playback rendered media on one or more entertainment appliances (12). The remote control device (10) preferably has standard remote control capability in order to enable advanced features and functions for media playback.
Abstract:
A system and method for facilitation and encouragement of user interaction and functionality with a multimedia program via an entertainment system and remote control device (100). The entertainment system and remote control device are in two-way communication to accomplish the various interactivity functions and features of the invention. The remote control includes one or more selectively illuminated buttons under the control of the entertainment system (220, 222, 224), such that when the entertainment system displays a prompt to the user requiring a response, the entertainment system may send a signal to the remote control selectively illuminating the button(s) to indicate to the user that the button(s) may be operated to make a response to the prompt.
