    Abstract: An imaging apparatus includes an input that receives a stream of image pixels (14) such as high addressable bits, multiple bits per pixel or binary image bits representing an input image and a processor (20) that processes and directs signals to an LED bar (38) that selectively exposes areas of a photoreceptor (36). The exposed areas of the photoreceptor (36) form a latent image, controlled by the processor (20), of areas of varied exposure based on surrounding pixels. The processor (20) examines the pixels (14) to determine an image structure beneficially adaptable to varied exposure and selects a pixel for varied exposure, such as increased or decreased exposure or altered timing to apply the pixel.

    Abstract: Described herein is a method and apparatus for consistently rotating high addressability bitmap images to be rendered on a printing system. A first step encodes the high addressability image to produce a regular bitmap array and then rotates the regular array. A compact dot growth operation is applied to assure that exposure pulses for any gray pixels are consistently positioned to provide a consistent output which is independent of the rotation direction.

    Abstract: The system has a printer, capable of rendering density with n density levels, adapted to print the colour separations at distinct spatial resolutions, so that when the colour separations are superposed on a substrate, a selected colour is defined. A source of image signals describe the colour document with a number of colour separations, each image signal representing optical density as one of m levels for a discrete area of a colour separation. A spatial resolution scaler is connected to the source of image signals. A halftone processor reduces the number of levels m representing optical density in a subset of the colour separations to a number of levels n representing optical density, the processor generating a first periodic pattern at a first spatial resolution. A second halftone processor reduces the number of levels m representing optical density in at least one remaining colour separation to a number of levels n representing optical density, the processor generating a second periodic pattern at a second spatial resolution. A video processor directs the distinct spatial resolution signals processed at each halftone processor to the printer to print the processed colour image.
