Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable length sheet path and variable speed for maintaining a properly timed relation between sheets when a sheet stack is vacant. SOLUTION: This media feeder comprises a printing system forming a sheet feeder for feeding cut sheets to a sheet processing device with pitches in a timed relation. The sheet feeder comprises a fixed take away roller, a first transport roller, and a second transport roller. The take away roller removes individual sheets from the feeder. A fixed length sheet path is present between the take away roller, the first transport roller, and the second transport roller. The take away roller and the first transport roller are driven independently of each other at speeds variably between a first speed, a second speed, and a third speed. The second transport roller is driven at the third speed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive system with automatic feed-on and feed-off operations to minimize labor overhead to satisfy needs of small print shops.SOLUTION: A media feeding and cutting system 10 includes: a media cutter 16 including a cutting surface and a digital cutting device; a first feeder 14 configured to automatically transport individual sheets of media from an in-feed receptacle 12 toward the cutter; a positioner configured to position the medium on the cutting surface; a second feeder 18 disposed adjacent to or connected to the cutting surface which is configured to automatically transport the cut medium from the cutter to an out-feed receptacle; and a processor configured to operate the cutter, first feeder, positioner and second feeder.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a media feed type cutting plotter that eliminates the need for frequent replacement of a backing sheet disposed at the reverse side of the sheet to a cutting blade.SOLUTION: A cutting plotter includes feed rollers 62, 63 for shifting a sheet media back and forth along the Y-direction, and a cutting device 53 that reciprocates in an X-direction and cooperates with the feed roller to cut the sheet in a desired shape. A base plate 59 is disposed below the cutting device in the X-direction. The base plate has a plurality of channels 70 formed therein. The channel is sized and configured to receive a portion of a blade of the cutting device when the blade 56 engages the sheet, and the blade traverses laterally along the channel.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-speed and inexpensive sheet separating/feeding machine alternately feeding sheets of different size from both sides of one common sheet stack. SOLUTION: The print media sheets are independently and alternately fed in turn in opposite directions from both sides of the same stack 18 by first and second sheet feeding machines 21, 22. At least either one 21 of the first and second sheet feeding machines can be relocated in a direction of the other sheet feeding machine and a direction separating from that, corresponding to feeding of the stack with different size of the print media sheets with different size from the same sheet stacking tray. In relation to relocation of the sheet feeding machine, length can be partially relocated (a solid line and a phantom line). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet-moving type cutting plotter that is capable of both cutting and creasing.SOLUTION: An apparatus includes: a computer operated cutting and creasing tool 14 configured to move only in an X direction during use; a cutting and creasing platform 34 which has an elastically deformable creasing portion 40 configured to support a sheet of media during contact with a creasing tip 26 and has a non-deformable cutting portion 36 configured to support the sheet during contact with a cutting blade 22; and a positioner configured to draw the sheet of media along the cutting and creasing platform 34 during cutting and creasing. Methods of making and using the apparatus also are disclosed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that media deformation created by a scoring pen is very small and does not sufficiently weaken or delaminate the media at fold lines so the folds are not crisp and straight.SOLUTION: An apparatus includes a sheet path, an elongated member 106 positioned on a first side of the sheet path, and a support 102 positioned on a second side of the sheet path opposite the elongated member. The support is positioned relative to the elongated member so that a sheet of print media passes along a processing plane between the elongated member and the support when the sheet of the printing media 104 travels in a processing direction along the media path. The processing plane is parallel to flat sides of the sheet of print media as the sheet of print media passes between the elongated member and the support. The support comprises a surface positioned parallel to the processing plane. The surface of the support has a recess 108 having a shape corresponding to the elongated member. The surface of the support rotates in the processing plane.
