Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection system which identifies a glyph in real time without performing a computer analysis of an image. SOLUTION: A glyph detector 20 includes a pair of photosensitive elements 22a and 22b which are dimensioned to adapt themselves to two dots of both ends of one glyph and a pair of photosensitive elements 24a and 24b which are dimensioned to overlap on two dots of both ends of the other glyph. The bottom electrode 30 of the pair 22 and 22b is connected to a positive voltage source, while the top electrode 34 of the pair 24a and 24b is connected to a negative voltage source. Output voltage becomes maximum when an area under one pair of the electrode is white and an area under the other pair is black. When one glyph is detected, the maximum output voltage is positive and when it responds to the other glyph, the maximum voltage becomes negative. The maximum positive or negative voltage is shown in 1 or 0 of binary.
