PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for assisting a user in navigation of an image dataset using contents as well as various features. SOLUTION: The method includes: receiving a user's text query, retrieving images responsive to the query from an image dataset, receiving a first feature selected by a user from a set of available features, receiving a second feature selected by the user from a set of available features, and displaying at least some of the retrieved images on a graphical user interface. The arrangement of images reflects different levels of the first feature where only a first feature is selected. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To align a group of objects in a document based on the contents of the objects. SOLUTION: The apparatus for alignment of objects in a document includes: a computer-readable memory 28 which stores an object alignment system; and a processor 26 which is communicable with the memory 28 and executes the object alignment system. The object alignment system includes: an object detection unit 60 for identifying first and second object to be aligned in the document; a profile generation unit 64 for generating a one dimensional guideline profile for the first object based on a detection of saliency for the first object; and an alignment generation unit 66 and an object reconfiguration unit 68 for executing alignment of the first and second objects based on the guideline profile. SOLUTION: A device generates an image quality guide document for a set of images, including: a means for outputting image quality-related features for images in the set based on enhancement being applied to the image; a means for outputting image content-related features for images in the set; a means for receiving the outputted image quality-related features and image content-related features and outputting content-based degradation for at least one of images in the set; a means for generating a thumbnail for images in the set; and a means for generating the image quality guide document for a set of images, for the images in the set. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time taken for executing an image enhancement operation for improving perception quality of a print job. SOLUTION: A presented print job is received. Characteristics are extracted from the print job for characterizing the presented print job. The extracted characteristics and a predicted model based on the characteristics extracted from a previous print job and based on an enhancement operation executed for the previous print job are mutually compared. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method which utilizes the patch of images where a red eye candidate is detected as its input. SOLUTION: The image processing method classifies patches by patches by a classification device trained so as to classify the patches to patches of a standard first class which is relating to the standard compensation of the red eye candidate or patches of one or more kinds of second classes relating to the improvement compensation of the red eye candidate. The improvement compensation is designed for the patches of the second class for reducing the risk of deterioration in the image. For classification, reliability relating to classification can be obtained optionally. When the images are classified to one or more kinds of second classes and the reliability exceeds a threshold, the improvement compensation is applied to the patches.
