Abstract:
A contour cut door beam for automobiles, and apparatus and method of forming same. A steel tube is contour cut with a laser beam from a source offset from an operative axis coincident with the tube axis, using simultaneous rotational and linear advancement between the tube and cutting beam to form an arcuate outer end terminus on the tube in a plane transverse to the axis, an arcuate inner terminus on the opposite side of the tube in a second plane transverse to the axis, and a pair of mirror image contoured edges joining said termini, with all portions being on radii relative to said axis.
Abstract:
A multi-spot welding arrangement in which a jig table on the front surface of a machine frame has a plurality of welding guns located along the shape or contour of the workpiece to be processed or worked. An electric supply has a plurality of units which are connected to the welding guns through respective electric supply cables. A pressure applying mechanism has a plurality of operation cylinders which are connected to the welding guns through respective flexible wires, and is located on the rear side and the upper side of the machine frame. The machine frame, moreover, has a front frame and a rear frame which are coupled together in a detachable manner. The jig table and the pressure applying mechanism are located on the front frame, and the electric supply is provided on the rear frame.
Abstract:
A method for assembling body parts wherein at least two originally separate elements are brought to an assembly station, where they are held stationary with respect to one another and with reference to the assembly station. Supports, uniquely adapted to handle a plurality of models of parts grip the elements and are used to bring the elements to the assembly station and are thereafter transported to further assembly stations for the addition of additional elements as appropriate. The elements are joined together, for example, by welding.
Abstract:
Methods of laser welding zinc coated galvalized steel are disclosed. In a method that relates to forming hem joints for motor vehicle body components a sheet of steel is provided with a plurality of V-shaped tabs. When a hem joint is formed the V-shaped tabs together with a surface of another sheet of steel form gas venting channels that provide an escape passage for gas vapors that are developed when the zinc coating is vaporized by laser welding. In another method of laser welding, one of the steel sheets has an axially extending wall that is V-shaped to provide a V-shaped groove and the wall has spaced gas vent holes.
Abstract:
An automatic cutting machine including at least one mounting stand linearly movable in a first direction by a first driving structure; a powerful laser-beam generator; a head that sends out infrared ray flux generated in the laser-beam generator after the flux is condensed or focussed and a movable supporting structure for supporting the head above the mounting stand. The supporting means moves in the first direction and a second direction perpendicular to the first direction and a third direction perpendicular to both the first and second directions by means of a seocnd and third driving means. A connecting structure for rotating the supporting structure around the first direction or axis by a fourth driving structure in order to rotate the head around the second direction or axis perpendicular to the first direction or axis relative to the connecting structure by means of a fifth driving structure and an automatic control means for the driving means and the laser-beam generator. A protective element for defining a cutting area in which the areas of the mounting stand is installed so as to move across the areas of the protective means being constructed by material nontransmissive to infrared ray flux.
Abstract:
An industrial robot carries a portable laser welder on its movable end effector. The welder has a hollow compression tube axially movable against an anvil to hold a plurality of workpieces together while welding. The laser beam is brought through the tube from a remote laser generator by means of an articulatable light pipe system connecting the compression tube and the generator.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method capable of applying weld material to metal parts on a generally automatic basis. The apparatus and method are uniquely adapted to apply weld material to the journals and crankpins and crank arms of an automotive type crankshaft on a generally automatic basis. The apparatus comprises a frame and a head stock and tail stock for rotatably supporting a crankshaft relative to the frame. A carriage is shiftable relative to the crankshaft and in a direction generally parallel to the central axis of the crankshaft. A welding torch is carried by the carriage and shiftable longitudinally and generally parallel to the central axis of said crankshaft. A torch positioning mechanism in said carriage includes a member simultaneously moveable in two mutually perpendicular directions by a drive mechanism which also causes rotation of the crankshaft. The movement of the member causes the welding torch to move in a generally true circular path so that the tip of the torch will closely follow to orbiting movement of the crank pins and the journals of the crankshaft.
Abstract:
In assembling a vehicle body frame for a motorcycle by welding front and rear frame subassemblies to each other, the following steps are carried out: a step of positioning left and right rear portions of the front frame subassembly by a pair of front positioning device movable at least in a widthwise direction of the vehicle body frame, a step of clamping a head pipe by a front clamp device which is capable of being moved in vertical and longitudinal directions of the vehicle body frame and is capable of being tilted longitudinally, a step of positioning left and right rear portions of the rear frame subassembly by a pair of rear positioning device movable in the longitudinal, widthwise and vertical directions of the vehicle body frame, a step of clamping left and right front portions of the rear frame subassembly by a pair of rear clamp means movable in the longitudinal, widthwise and vertical directions of the vehicle body frame, and a step of welding the front and rear frame subassemblies to each other. Thus, it is possible to provide general-purpose properties to reduce the equipment cost.
Abstract:
A track bushing for an endless track of a track-type vehicle includes a cylindrical tubular shape, a first end and a second end, and first end and second bearing surfaces adjacent respective ends. A circumferential groove having a depth in an axial direction is formed in at least one of the first end and second end bearing surfaces. An abrasion resistant material is deposited within the circumferential groove and bonded to the bushing at a bond interface. The abrasion resistant material at the bond interface is diluted with no greater than 5% by weight track bushing material.
