Abstract:
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for debarking logs are shown and described. The disclosed embodiments can be used for quickly and conveniently replacing contact surfaces, such as leading edges, of swing arm assemblies. Some disclosed embodiments include a swing arm assembly having a replaceable insert that defines a leading edge for engaging logs moving along a processing line. The insert can be made of a wear resistant material for a prolonged life. A worn insert can be replaced with another insert to ensure proper functioning of the debarker.

A gas spring for barking machines comprises at least one elastic cushion or bellows (12, 12') which is filled with gas and operates between a stationary abutment (13) on a rotor of the machine and a supporting plate (15) connected to a driver means (18) of a tool shaft (9) by an articulation (17). The supporting plate (15) is connected to a control means (19) which is laterally removed from the articulation (17) and which engages, and is movable back and forth along, a guide means (20), the control means (19) and the articulation (17) being compelled to move jointly towards and away from the abutment while guiding the supporting plate substantially parallel to the abutment.

A rotation-ring barker comprises a stator (7) and a rotor (8) which is mounted so as to be rotatable in relation to the stator and which has an opening (4) for a log to pass through. A number of pivotable processing tools (2) are connected to the rotor and are each arranged on a shaft (14) which is rotatably mounted in the rotor and acted upon by a spring means (23) striving to keep the tool (2) yieldably applied against a log passing through the rotor opening. Connected to the stator (7) are one or more hydraulic cylinders (15) serving to axially displace a ring (17) which accompanies the rotor and which, via a transmission link (28), is connected to a stop means mounted so as to be rotatable in relation to the tool shaft (14) and adapted to cooperate with a support member non-rotatably connected to the tool shaft, more precisely in such a manner that the stop means, on the one hand, by rotating in one direction about its axis, positively entrains the support member while pivoting the tool (2) out and away from the rotor centre against the action of the associated spring means to a desired, optional stop position and, on the other hand, by rotating in the opposite direction away from this stop position, can, when the tool is applied against a log, let go of the support member to allow the spring means to keep the tool applied against the log.

In the positioning system for an operating cylinder (1), a valve or a set of valves (6; 10, 11) comprises means for allowing a free supply of hydraulic fluid from a pump fluid chamber (8) of a pump cylinder (7) into an operating fluid chamber (2) of the operat ing cylinder (1), for preventing the back flow of hydraulic fluid from the operating fluid chamber (2) into the pump fluid chamber (8) when the hydraulic fluid pressure on the control side (A) rises above a predetermined pressure limit, and for allowing a free back flow of hydraulic fluid from the operating fluid chamber (2) into the pump fluid chamber (8) when the hydraulic fluid pressure on the control side (A) goes below the predetermined pressure limit. An operating piston rod (3) follows closely the movement of a pump piston rod (9), and the valve or the set of valves (6; 10, 11) prevents pressure fluctuations from transmitting from the operating side (B) to the control side (A). The system can be used for instance in a hole-rotor- type barking machine (16) for positioning the operating cylinders of barking blades (17). The system can also be used for positioning the operating cylinders (1) operating the gripping jaws (19) of a hydraulic gripper (18) of a machine. Furthermore, the system can preferably be used for positioning the operating cylinders of pusher shafts, lift booms and articulated knuckle booms of a machine.

Eine Spannungsvorrichtung für die Messerwerkzeuge (1) einer Lochrotorentrindungsmaschine besteht aus einem im Vergleich zum Messerarm (1) wesentlich schwereren Gewicht (2), das an der dem Messerarm (1) gegenüberliegenden Seite der Messerhaltewelle (4) bzw. versetzt zu dieser angeordnet ist. Die gelagerten Messerhaltewellen (4) sind am Außenring des Rotors (8) befestigt. Zusätzliche Hilfsmittel zum Spannen, Schließen und Öffnen (6), (7) und (10) der Messerwerkzeuge (1) sind auf geeignete Weise am Gegengewicht (2) angeordnet, damit sie (6), (7) und (10) auf Schubkraft- oder Zugkraftbasis arbeiten können.

Un couteau d'écorçage (3) selon l'invention comprend une plaque (14) munie d'au moins une arête (6) aiguë d'écorçage limitée par une face d'attaque (7) et une face de fuite (8). La face d'attaque (7) est renforcée par un rechargement antiabrasion (16) présentant des qualités antiabrasion supérieures à celles du substrat formant la plaque (14). Le rechargement antiabrasion est de préférence un mélange de grains de carbure de tungstène fondu liés par un alliage Ni/Cr/B/Si, l'ensemble étant brasé sur le substrat (14) par un faisceau laser.

A method and system for detecting and controlling the quality of debarking at the surface of a wooden log provide information on main parameters related to the debarking quality of the log surface, including fiber loss and residual bark. The debarking quality detecting method and system involve measurement of three-dimensional profile of at least a portion of the log surface to generate corresponding profile image data, which is processed to generate data indicative of the texture of the log surface. The texture data is then analyzed to generate resulting data on the debarking quality parameters. That quality indicative information can be generated on a continuous basis to provide an objective assessment of the quality performance in real-time in view of target productivity, and may then be used to perform optimal adjustments of the debarker operating parameters, either manually by the operator or automatically through feedback control.
