A method and apparatus for processing service guide information is disclosed. The method includes receiving a service guide delivery information including at least one of a profile grouping criteria and a parental rating grouping criteria as grouping criteria, wherein the profile grouping criteria corresponds to criteria information for grouping service guide information required for displaying an audio or video service of the service guide information, and wherein the parental rating grouping criteria corresponds to criteria information for grouping service guide information based upon viewing rating levels; decoding the received service guide information and receiving the grouped service guide information based upon the corresponding grouping criteria, and receiving and outputting data content by using the received grouped service guide information.

Systems and methods are presented for insertion of assets into a stream of content (e.g., audio and/or video programming). Such assets may be targeted to network users separate from the surrounding content and deliveries thereof confirmed. Among other things, these systems and methods enable a new advertising paradigm based on guaranteed delivery of targeted commercial impressions. In this regard, the systems and methods generally provide assets with broadcast network programming (e.g., via actual insertion and/or switching to an asset channel) based on actual audience observations. For example, asset providers may wish to target assets for delivery according to specific audience classifications (e.g., gender, income level, locale, age, etc.). Programming providers, such as television programmers and radio programmers (e.g., standard tower broadcast radio and satellite radio), may receive information from broadcast network users and insert the assets into available bandwidth based on that information.

When a digital data transmission such as a digital television transmission is received by a receiver (100), the receiver attempts to locate parental rating data for a program in the transmission for a home country or jurisdiction (105, 220) in which the receiver is located. If the home jurisdiction rating data is available, it is used to control blocking of the program (270). If the home jurisdiction rating data is not available, rating data is obtained from the transmission for a foreign jurisdiction to control blocking of the program (270). If ratings for multiple foreign jurisdictions are available, the highest, most strict rating (240), may be used to control blocking of the program.
