    Abstract: In an imaging system (60) of the type having a photosensor package (510) and at least one optical component (570), e.g., a lens, mounted within an optical assembly housing (200), the photosensor package (510) is mounted to a substrate (540), such as a printed circuit board, which has a shorter length than the photosensor package (510). This shorter length causes the ends of the photosensor package (510) to extend beyond the substrate (540) and, thus, be exposed. The exposed ends (524, 526) of the photosensor package (510), in turn, allow the photosensor package (510) to be directly referenced to reference surfaces (442, 446, 450, 452) formed on the optical assembly housing (200).

    Abstract: An optical scanning device includes a light source, an optical system, and a housing. The light source projects a light beam. The housing includes a holder and encloses the optical system. The optical system includes a liquid crystal element held by the housing via the holder, to modulate a phase of the light beam projected from the light source against a scanned surface. The liquid crystal element includes a plurality of substantially transparent substrates, a liquid crystal layer, and a sealing member. One of the plurality of the transparent substrates has a size larger than any other transparent substrates and is positioned in the holder. The liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between the plurality of substantially transparent substrates. The sealing member seals the liquid crystal layer between the plurality of substantially transparent substrates.

    Abstract: A mounting bracket for an image sensing unit of a scanner according to one example embodiment includes a first portion and a second portion extending from the first portion. The first portion has a plurality of elongated holes therein each for receiving a fastener to mount the mounting bracket to a scan head frame. The second portion includes a cutout section therein for allowing an image sensor of the image sensing unit to receive an image from an optical unit of the scanner. A pivot hole in the first portion is centered about a width of the cutout section. When the mounting bracket is mounted on the scan head frame, the elongated holes in the first portion permit linear adjustment of the mounting bracket relative to the scan head frame and the pivot hole permits angular adjustment of the mounting bracket relative to the scan head frame.

    Abstract: A carriage module with an image capture unit for using in a scanning device is disclosed. The module includes a carriage having a sliding seat and a cam; a lens attached to the carriage device; an image capture unit capturing the light images from the lens; a PC board mounting the carriage; and a supporting plate supporting the PC board. The supporting plate includes a pin and formed on the carriage. The simple trimming mechanism adjusts the distance between the lens and the image sensor easily. So, the device not only improves the quality of the formation of image and also promotes the efficiency of operating.

    Abstract: An original reading unit has first and second arrays of sensor assemblies extending in a main scanning direction for performing readings of an original document. Each of the sensor assemblies includes a sensor holder that undergoes pivotal movement about a single rotation center as a fulcrum along a wall of a unit base to bring the sensor holder to a predetermined position whereat the sensor holder can be fixed to the units base wall. A line sensor is mounted relative to the sensor holder so as not to be shifted in the main scanning direction or in a sub-scanning direction, and to undergo movement in an approaching or a separating direction so as to be brought into contact with or separated from, respectively, the unit base wall and an original support plate attached to the unit base. A focus setup unit moves the line sensor in the approaching or separating direction and positions the line sensor at a location whereat focus can be adjusted.
