Abstract: A printer has an imaging part for reading an image on printer paper. The image data captured is processed by a control part. The positions of register marks (R1-R4)are determined by calculation. The position shift necessary to position the image is calculated. From the calculated position shift, an offset count Co for determining an image recording start position is determined. The determined offset count Co is stored and start position data is generated. Then, image dimension correction data is calculated. An image on the printer paper is captured, and the necessary position shift is calculated. To alter the rotational speed of the plate cylinder, a speed coefficient k is calculated. Abstract: A cylindrical engraving system selectively able to engrave either in a helical or circumferential format. An encoder (22) scans index markings on the surface of a cylinder being engraved and generates timing pulses for selective application to one or the other of a helical drive unit (34) or a circumferential drive unit (32) incorporated within the system controller (30). Engraving is performed by an engraving head (14) which is stepped in the axial direction along the workpiece in response to step pulses generated by the selected drive unit. The step pulses may be generated in spaced bursts or at a regular frequency depending upon whether circumferential or helical driving has been selected.

Abstract: A multiple camera automatic digitizer includes a plurality of spaced video cameras (19) mounted within a housing (3) under a transparent digitizing surface (51). Multiplexing circuitry (37) multiplexes video signals from a selected video camera into a video amplifier (51), the output of which is converted to a digital number representing the darkness of the point of the document most recently scanned by a presently selected one of the video cameras. In accordance with the invention, the automatic digitizer includes a microprocessor (111), system controls that allows selection of various ones of the video cameras to achieve digitizing of corresponding areas of a large document, and computes skew correction factors for each camera as the basis of digitizing of a plurality of permanent alignment marks (P) on a bottom surface of a cover (11) for the digitizing surface. The skew correction factors are used to skew correct the camera data produced by the corresponding camera. The skew corrected lateral offset of each camera is computed by the microprocessor on the basis of the digitized coordinates of the alignment points and is used to automatically compute skew corrected, offset corrected document coordinates for all of the video cameras.

Abstract: In a method of electronic recording of information from an information carrier, a position-coding pattern (3) is placed on top of or under the information carrier. Abstract: In a reading device, a light transmissive member has a front surface on which an original is placed. A peripheral member is adjacent to the light transmissive member, and includes a back surface in which a reference hole is formed. The reference hole includes a first edge and a second edge intersecting with each other. A reading sensor faces the back surface of the light transmissive member and the back surface of the peripheral member. The controller controls the reading sensor to read a reading range including the reference hole to obtain a read image, and determines a reference position in the reading range based on the read image. The reference position is determined to an intersection between the first edge and the second edge. The controller sets a reading start position based on the reference position.
