Abstract:
Paintable, cured polyorganosiloxane sealants are prepared at room temperature from room temperature curable compositions containing a hydroxyl-terminated polyorganosiloxane, an organosilicon compound containing at least two amido groups, aminoxy groups or combinations thereof, per molecule and characterized by a substituted alcohol where the substituent is acyloxy, alkoxycarbonyl, cyano, mercapto, or the combination of a carbon-to-carbon triple bond and an ether-type oxygen atom, where each Y and Z are individually selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydrocarbyl and halohydrocarbyl.
Abstract:
This invention discloses a method of controlling the relative physical properties of foams such as density and compressibility or density and Bashore resiliency for compositions which consist essentially of triorganosiloxy endblocked polydiorganosiloxane having at least two vinyl radicals, platinum catalyst, organohydrogensiloxane, and hydroxyl endblocked polydiorganosiloxane. The relative values of the physical properties are adjusted by the addition of varying amounts of organic alcohol having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms to the composition.
Abstract:
A polyacetal composition comprises polyacetal, an aliphatic ester of a polyhydric alcohol having a hydroxy group, polyethylene glycol and an organometallic salt.
Abstract:
This invention provides organopolysiloxane elastomers exhibiting a desirable combination of high durometer hardness, tensile strength and tear strength, and a level of heat stability sufficient to retain these properties following prolonged exposure to temperatures above 150°C. The elastomers are prepared by curing a vinyl endblocked polydiorganosiloxane, an organopolysiloxane resin having a specified concentration of vinyl groups, a treated silica filler containing vinylsiloxy groups bonded to the silica particles and an organohydrogenpolysiloxane in the presence of a suitable platinum catalyst.
Abstract:
A flexible gas-permeable polymeric film useful in the modified atmosphere packaging of fresh produce, incorporates a glycerolate, preferably zinc glycerolate. The film may also incorporate an ethylene active agent such as sodium permanganate.
Abstract:
Disclosed are formulations of rubbers arising from a surprising finding of the effects of addition of compounds formed between certain metal compounds and polyhydric alcohols which contain terminal -CH2OH group or groups connected to an adjacent -COH group to rubber or rubber-like compounds. More specifically disclosed are methods of modifying the friction coefficient of rubber and the adhesion to metal characteristics, and to the rubber so modified. The compounds disclosed have a metal bonded via an oxygen residue of these hydroxyl groups. Polyhydroxy alcohols that might be used to form the compounds are, for example, the alcohols mannitol, xylitol, erythritol and isomers, other polyhydric alcohols such as for example ethanediol or a propanediol or propanetriol or 1,2 butanediol or 1,2,3 butanetriol and polyvinyl alcohols and similar compounds or substituted compounds such as 2-stearo-1,3-propandiol and similar compounds. Metals of metal oxygen-containing compounds which may be combined or bonded as described with the hydroxyl groups of suitable polyhydroxy organic compound are for example, cobalt, iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, bismuth, nickel and/or chromium. The metal oxygen-containing compounds may be oxides, hydroxides, organo-metal compounds such as stearates and/or the oxy-salts of these metals, for example carbonates.
Abstract:
Provided is a carbonaceous binder composition which comprises a polymerized and dehydrated carbohydrate, a monomer or polymer of resorcinol, and water. It is important that the carbohydrate is a polymer when combined with the remaining components of the composition. Polymerization of the carbohydrate prior to being combined with the other components of the composition has been found to result in an increased carbon yield upon pyrolysis of the binder. The binder composition also has an effective shelf life of three months or longer and gives off no objectionable smell either before or after being pyrolyzed. More importantly, the binder is also free of any skin or respiratory irritants, and is in effect non-carcinogenic.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a reaction product of zinc oxide and pentaerythritol. The present invention also provides polymer blends stabilized with such zinc oxide and pentaerythritol reaction product and methods of producing stabilized polymer blends using the reaction product. More particularly, in one preferred form of the invention there is provided a method of producing a stabilized vinyl halide polymer blend comprising the steps of providing a vinyl halide polymer, providing a stabilizer system comprising the reaction product of zinc oxide and pentaerythritol, and mixing the vinyl halide polymer with the stabilizer system. The resultant stabilized vinyl halide polymer blend preferably comprises at least about 0.01 percent by weight of the reaction product of zinc oxide and pentaerythritol.
