Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron-type golf club capable of attaining a long drive distance with less roll. SOLUTION: This iron-type golf club 10 includes a conventional-weight section, a lightweight section and a heavyweight section. The conventional-weight section 12 includes the hitting face and at least a portion of the hosel. The heavyweight section 16, made of a denser material than the conventional-weight section, includes the sole and an optional back flange. The lightweight section 14, made of a material less dense than either of the other sections, includes a core 22 to which the other two sections are secured. The heavyweight section includes anchoring structures to which the lightweight section can securely attach. This arrangement maintains the overall weight of the club head compared to a similarly proportioned conventional club head while shifting the center of gravity low and aft. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in manufacture due to moisture absorptive of ionomer resin neutralized to a high level, which is used for a cover of a golf ball, and to improve deterioration of performance as a ball. SOLUTION: A multilayer golf ball 10 includes a core 12, an optional intermediate layer 14 and a cover 16, wherein at least one layer includes, a first highly neutralized moisture resistant acid polymer composition having a moisture vapor transmission rate of 8 g-mil/100 in 2 /day or less, the intermediate layer includes a second highly neutralized acid polymer, and the two polymer layers form a percent neutralization gradient. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a golf ball with a spin rate set to be a proper value and having a desirable property for a player for recreation. SOLUTION: A golf ball with a controlled moment of inertia and controlled spin rate is disclosed. The ball has an intermediate layer positioned between the core and the cover and the intermediate layer has a reduced specific gravity by containing highly neutralized polymer and due to a foamed material.
