Abstract: A data-capable strapband is described, including techniques for monitoring co-participation in an activity using a data-capable strapband. Data associated with each co-participant's participation in the physical activity may be gathered, processed, analyzed, monitored and compared by each co-participant using data-capable strapbands. Additional devices, such as mobile communications devices, mobile computing devices, computers, laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and the like, along with any available accompanying software applications, may be used in conjunction with the data-capable strapbands to further analyze the data that is gathered and presented via, for example, a server configured to provide a social networking service.

Abstract: A voice activity detector (VAD) combines the use of an acoustic VAD and a vibration sensor VAD as appropriate to the conditions a host device is operated. The VAD includes a first detector receiving a first signal and a second detector receiving a second signal. The VAD includes a first VAD component coupled to the first and second detectors. The first VAD component determines that the first signal corresponds to voiced speech when energy resulting from at least one operation on the first signal exceeds a first threshold. The VAD includes a second VAD component coupled to the second detector. The second VAD component determines that the second signal corresponds to voiced speech when a ratio of a second parameter corresponding to the second signal and a first parameter corresponding to the first signal exceeds a second threshold.

Abstract: Acoustic Voice Activity Detection (AVAD) methods and systems are described. The AVAD methods and systems, including corresponding algorithms or programs, use microphones to generate virtual directional microphones which have very similar noise responses and very dissimilar speech responses. The ratio of the energies of the virtual microphones is then calculated over a given window size and the ratio can then be used with a variety of methods to generate a VAD signal. The virtual microphones can be constructed using either an adaptive or a fixed filter.

Interior structure may include a first flexible substrate having a first relaxation structure and a second flexible substrate having a second relaxation structure. Components or other structures may be connected with the first and/or second flexible substrates. The first and second relaxation structures may be positioned relative to each other to define a flexure point. At least one flexible and electrically non-conductive cover, that may undergo shirking, may conformally cover at least a portion of the interior structure. A flexible overmolding may be formed over the cover and may comprise the exterior structure.

Abstract: A system, apparatus, or method for enabling an application developer to access the events, data and functionality of a device, such as a mobile phone, without being limited by the API provided by the device manufacturer. In some embodiments, the present invention utilizes a transparent gateway as a proxy that is inserted into the device stack to enable an application developer to access features and functions of the device beyond those exposed by the manufacturer provided API. For example, the transparent gateway may be inserted into the wireless stack of a mobile phone, in between the Bluetooth stack and the device's API. The transparent gateway may be installed in the mobile phone via an over the air provisioning or another suitable method.
