Abstract:
A compressor may include a crankshaft, a lower bearing, an oil sump, an oil pump and a pressure equilibrium tube. The crankshaft may include an oil supply passage formed therethrough. The lower bearing may rotatably support a lower part of the crankshaft. The oil sump may be disposed proximate the lower part of the crankshaft. The oil pump may include an inlet, an outlet, an intake chamber and a discharging chamber. The inlet may be positioned below a level of oil in the oil sump and in fluid communication with the intake chamber. The discharging chamber may be in fluid communication with the oil supply passage at the lower part of the crankshaft through the outlet. The pressure equilibrium tube provides fluid communication between a space above the level of oil in the oil sump and the intake chamber.
Abstract:
Methods of forming an integral component for a compressor and methods for improving ductility of an integral component for a compressor are provided. The integral component is formed of a recycled nylon and a recycled polypropylene. Recycled carpet is used to provide the recycled nylon and recycled polypropylene. The integral components are useful for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and refrigeration devices.
Abstract:
A compressor may include a shell, a compression mechanism supported within the shell, a drive shaft engaged with the compression mechanism and a motor. The drive shaft may define first and second passages extending axially within the drive shaft and a third passage extending radially through an outer circumferential surface of the drive shaft and in communication with the second passage. The drive shaft may define an axially extending wall separating the first and second passages. The motor may include a rotor fixed to the drive shaft and a stator supported within the shell. The third passage may be adapted to provide oil to the stator during compressor operation to cool the stator.
Abstract:
A thrust plate for a compressor may include first and second ends and a feed hole. The first end may include a thrust surface. The second end may include a lubricant accumulation feature. The feed hole may extend between the lubricant accumulation feature and the thrust surface to provide communication therebetween. The feed hole may be angled relative to a longitudinal axis of the thrust plate such that lubricant flows through the feed hole from the lubricant accumulation feature to the thrust surface.
Abstract:
A compressor hub assembly may include a hub member, a valve retainer and a valve member. The hub member may include first and second portions. The first portion may define an annular hub wall for a compressor and may have a first inner diameter. The second portion may have a second inner diameter greater than the first inner diameter and may define a stepped region between the first and second portions. The valve retainer may be fixed to the hub member at an end of the second portion opposite the stepped region and may define a third inner diameter. The valve member may be located between the valve retainer in the stepped region and may have an outer diameter less than the second inner diameter and greater than the first and third inner diameters.
Abstract:
A controller includes a voltage determination module, a bus voltage command module, and a power factor correction (PFC) control module. The voltage determination module determines a desired direct current (DC) bus voltage for a DC bus electrically connected between a PFC module and an inverter power module that drives a compressor motor. The voltage determination module determines the desired DC bus voltage based on at least one of torque of the compressor motor, speed of the compressor motor, output power of the inverter power module, and drive input power. The bus voltage command module determines a commanded bus voltage based on the desired DC bus voltage. The PFC control module controls the PFC module to create a voltage on the DC bus that is based on the commanded bus voltage.
Abstract:
A counterweight cover for a compressor is provided and may include an annular body having a recess at least partially defined by an outer circumferential portion, an inner circumferential portion, and an upper portion connecting the outer circumferential portion and the inner circumferential portion. A suction baffle may be disposed on the annular body and may direct a flow of suction gas within the compressor.
Abstract:
A compressor may include a shell, a compression mechanism, a drive shaft, and first and second bearing housing assemblies. The compression mechanism may be supported within the shell and the drive shaft may have a first end drivingly engaged with the compression mechanism. The second bearing housing assembly may be located within and fixed to the shell. The second bearing housing may include a radially extending base portion defining an aperture rotatably supporting a second end of the drive shaft therein. The second bearing housing may additionally include a wall portion extending axially from the base portion and having a first region coupled to the shell at a first location, a second region coupled to the shell at a second location and a third region extending from the first region to the second region.
Abstract:
A climate control system is provided and may include a compressor, a first heat exchanger in fluid communication with the compressor, a second heat exchanger in fluid communication with the compressor and the first heat exchanger, and a third heat exchanger disposed between the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger. A conduit may be fluidly coupled to the third heat exchanger and the compressor and may selectively supply fluid to the compressor. A valve may control a volume of fluid supplied to the compressor via the conduit and a controller may control the valve based on a discharge temperature of the compressor and a super heat temperature of the third heat exchanger.
Abstract:
A scroll machine is provided with wear resistant features to provide the scroll machine with improved operation when processing CO2 refrigerant. In certain aspects, the scroll machine has an Oldham coupling comprising aluminum, where the aluminum has an anodized surface forming a passivation layer thereon. The scroll machine optionally further has a self-lubricating bearing capable of use in the CO2 scroll machine for at least 1,000 hours of operation.
