Abstract: In accordance with the instant invention, a water-based hydraulic fluid, havrhg improved lubricity, anti-wear and corrosion inhibition properties can be obtained by blending a heteric or block polyoxyalkylene copolymer nonionic surface-active agent with a conventional water-based hydraulic fluid composition. These heteric or block polyoxyalkylene copolymers are the reaction product of a linear or branched active hydrogen containing compound having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms with alkylene oxides having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms and an oxygen/carbon atom ratio of less than 0.4. Alternatively but advantageously, said copolymers may also be reacted with alkylene oxide having an oxygen/carbon atom ratio of greater than 0.4.
