Abstract:
Scrolls made from one or more near-net shaped powder metal processes either wholly or fabricated together from sections. Both “conventional” press and sinter methods and metal injection molding methods will be described.
Abstract:
A crankshaft supporter having a bearing holder molded in aluminum alloy and having a bearing for supporting a crankshaft. A preform member is cast inside of the aluminum alloy. A screw hole having one opened end is formed in an outer surface of the bearing holder. A concave recess section is formed in the preform member to accommodate a bottom of the screw hole. An introduction passage is provided in the recess section to introduce molten metal therein during casting to prevent blowholes.

Abstract of DisclosureA main bearing cap (20) for an internal combustion engine consists of an aluminum alloy with an iron alloy core (10). The cap has a supporting surface (22) for a bearing shell. The iron alloy core has a central portion (13) with two spaced apart through-channels (15) filled with an aluminum alloy (24) forming a coherent mass with an aluminum layer (23) the outer limiting surface of which forms the supporting surface (22).
Abstract:
Abstract of DisclosureA method of high pressure die casting in iron alloy reinforcements for main bearing scantlings in an aluminum alloy engine block for an internal combustion engine. Prior to casting, reinforcements (1) having bores (6) for main bearing screws are placed in a die cavity (21), so that cores for main bearing screws protrude into the bores in each reinforcement on one side of the reinforcement. Then the reinforcements are fixed in the die cavity by placing a cylinder liner core (25) against a surface (27) of the reinforcement on the opposite side of the reinforcement.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a modular internal combustion engine assembly that includes a closed-dome cylinder liner having solenoid actuated intake and exhaust valves supported within the dome portion of the cylinder liner. The engine assembly also includes a crankshaft having a series of discs joined together in a spaced parallel relationship by a plurality of crankpins, that is supported at the lower end of the cylinder block by bushings adapted to receive the crankshaft, such that the crankshaft rotates within the bushings in response to piston power strokes.
Abstract:
In a bearing for a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine having a crankcase including a bearing base portion with a bearing cover mounted thereon and both the bearing base portion and the bearing cover consisting of a light metal alloy, the bearing cover has removably mounted therein, adjacent the crankshaft, an insert consisting of a bearing material which has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the light metal alloy of which the base bearing portion and the bearing cover consist.
Abstract:
In an engine for a vehicle including a bearing cap integral type oil pan which has a plurality of bearing cap sections integrally provided thereon and which is integrally coupled to a cylinder block, connecting bolts are screwed into the bearing cap sections from the cylinder block to integrally couple the cylinder block and the oil pan to each other. An oil pan chamber, which is an as-cast bore made by drawing a die in an axial direction of a crankshaft, is defined to extend continuously in the axial direction of the crankshaft between the bearing cap sections and a bottom wall of the oil pan. Thus, the oil pan can be produced simply, at a low cost, by a casting process and moreover, it is possible to reduce the weight and size of the oil pan and increase the rigidity of the oil pan.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a cylinder block comprising one or more cylinders, the or each cylinder being adapted to receive a piston therein, the method comprising making a cylinder liner by squeeze casting, in an aluminium-silicon alloy produced from a melt consisting essentially of the following composition by weight: Silicon 14% to 16%; Copper 1.9% to 2.2%; Nickel 1.0% to 1.4%; Magnesium 0.4% to 0.55%; Iron 0.6% to 1.0%; Manganese 0.3% to 0.6%; Silicon Modifier 0.02% to 0.1%, with the balance being aluminium and any avoidable impurities, the cylinder liner having an essentially eutectic microstructure containing not more than 10% primary alpha-aluminium dendrites and being substantially free from intermetallic particles exceeding 10 .mu. in diameter, placing the cylinder block in a mold and casting therearound an aluminium alloy to provide a main cylinder block body with the cylinder liner entrapped therein.
Abstract:
An insert member for use in a flexible diaphragm portion of a pump which enables such flexible diaphragm portion of such pump to be provided with a substantially uniform non-obtrusive surface area that will be positioned in such pump for intimate contact with a material to be pumped. Such insert member includes a first disc-like portion having both a first predetermined size and a first predetermined configuration. There is also a second disc-like portion having both a second predetermined size and a second predetermined configuration. The second disc-like portion is secured adjacent one surface thereof to a first surface of the first disc-like portion and such second disc-like portion extends from the first surface of such first disc-like portion for a predetermined distance. This second disc-like portion is disposed substantially in a center portion of the first surface of such first disc-like portion. A plurality of apertures are formed through the first disc-like portion which have a third predetermined size and a third predetermined configuration. This plurality of apertures provides an overall predetermined open area through the first disc-like portion for receiving a rubber compound therein and thereby significantly improve bonding of the improved insert type member to such flexible diaphragm portion of such pump. A securing means is engageable at least with the second disc-like portion for securing the insert member to an elongated piston rod-like member disposed for reciprocal movement within such pump.
