Abstract:
A system (10) and method (50) for enabling phone users to participate in an instant messaging based conference can include the steps of receiving (52) a speech input from a telephone (26 or 28) through a teleconferencing system (24), transcribing (54) the speech input to a first text message and transmitting (58) the first text message to a plurality of devices (18, 20, 26 or 28) coupled to an instant messaging network belonging to the instant messaging based conference. The method can further include the steps of receiving (60) a second text message from any one among the plurality of devices on the instant messaging based conference, converting (62) the second text message to a speech output, and transmitting (68) the speech output to the telephone via the teleconferencing system.
Abstract:
A virtual assistant engine (10) for running a virtual assistant application (28, 30, 32), comprised of an interpreter for parsing, storing in a computer memory, and executing source code for a virtual assistant application, a scripting object that provides methods and properties for creating a virtual assistant application and an abstraction layer for interfacing with a speech recognition server (24), telephony hardware and a text to speech server, wherein the scripting object provides the interface between the abstraction layer and the virtual assistant application.
Abstract:
A computer based system and method for translation and communication of messages includes sending a message in a source language using a transmission protocol from a first client device to a second client device. The source language message is transmitted using a transmission protocol to a translation server for translating the message from the source language to a destination language by either the first or second client device. The message, in its destination language form, is displayed and stored. The translation server is either on-line or off-line. Text-to-voice and voice-to-text converters are used for conversion of original text messages to voice, or of original voice to text, for transmission to the second client device.
Abstract:
An audio user interface that provides audio prompts that help a user interact with a user interface of an electronic device is disclosed. The audio prompts can provide audio indicators that allow a user to focus his or her visual attention upon other tasks such as driving an automobile, exercising, or crossing a street, yet still enable the user to interact with the user interface. An intelligent path can provide access to different types of audio prompts from a variety of different sources. The different types of audio prompts may be presented based on availability of a particular type of audio prompt. As examples, the audio prompts may include pre-recorded voice audio, such as celebrity voices or cartoon characters, obtained from a dedicate voice server. Absent availability of pre-recorded or synthesized audio data, non-voice audio prompts may be provided.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A system is responsive to voice commands and requests 810 from a user 801 to access and search distributed data resources. The system may include a speech recognition engine configured to receive a spoken command 810 from the user 801. A processor is configured to identify a service 810 requested by the user 801 from the spoken command. A search engine 820, 840 is configured to associate the user 801 with other services providing offerings 830, 850 available to the user 801. A speech synthesizer provides an output to the user 801 that conveys the requested information 810. The processor may be configured to respond to a spoken selection made by the user 801 to selectively provide the requested information 810 and the offerings 830, 850 to the user 801. The speech synthesizer is responsive to the processor for converting the information 830, 850 retrieved from the selected service in a format that is audible to the user 801.
Abstract:
System and method for receiving documents of different formats from external sources, analyzing the documents and transforming them into an internal format comprising tokens for effective browsing and referencing, communicating data volumes of transformed documents to a user device, browsing and vocalizing tokens from the documents to the user, receiving and processing verbal user commands pertaining to said vocalized tokens, retrieving documents pertaining to the user command and vocalizing the retrieved documents to said user.
Abstract:
Techniques for providing presence services to black phones are described herein. According to one embodiment, a call is received from a caller party to a called party, where the call is originated from a POTS device that is not capable of handling IMS protocols. In response to the call, a presence service provider is used to retrieve presence information about the called party using the IMS protocols, where the presence information indicates a current presence state of the called party. Then the current presence state of the called party is announced to the caller party by playing a prerecorded voice message representing the current presence state of the called party. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.
