Abstract: The carrier has >=1 transverse arm on a vertical column, which transmits a swinging to and from motion in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the column and a cylindrical carrier surface on which the chains to be treated are suspended as closed loops so that they turn round themselves on the carrier surface under the influence of the swinging movement so that the treatment is uniform. Produces a uniform surface finish without imperfections at points of contact, as with conventional carriers.

Abstract: The machine comprises a motor with an eccentric weight mounted on springs, the vibrations providing the tumbling action. Around the hopper (5) is an annular ring (8), forming a circle of revolution in one plane and fitted with fixed partitions (14) providing individual compartments (P1 to P15). Each is filled with the finishing agent, (30) and an item (29) to be treated, as the carousel rotates (f) about its central axis. After one turn, the agent is released through a sieve (22) into a box (26) underneath, and the item removed from (P14). The finishing agent passes under a baffle plate (27) and is fed through an aperture (21) back into the carousel (P15).

Abstract: Apparatus for successively immersing articles in different baths, as in galvanoplasty or in cleaning parts by using a series of cleaning solutions. A treatment vessel is provided in which to immerse the parts first in one bath, then in another. The various baths are supplied to the treatment vessel through independent siphon conduits, each connected to one of a plurality of bath reservoirs located below the vessel so that when it is desired to empty the vessel, the bath liquid can be siphoned back to the reservoir from which it came through the same siphon conduit by which it was furnished the treatment vessel in the first place. In order to avoid the use of pumps, the baths are transferred from each of the reservoirs by individually pressurizing each reservoir, thereby forcing the bath up through its siphon conduit into the treatment vessel. By using siphons in this manner, accidental intermixing of the bath solutions is prevented.

Abstract: 1,121,370. Textile treating apparatus. ULTRASONA A.G. 6 Oct., 1965 [12 Oct., 1964], No. 42450/65. Heading D1L. A process for treating a continuous length of synthetic textile fabric to make it softer, less glossy and more voluminous, in which the fabric is subjected to treatment in a strongly attacking shrinking bath, while at the same time being subjected to ultrasonic waves and is immediately thereafter washed with a washing liquid that may contain a neutralizing agent for the shrinking liquid, is characterized in that the fabric is passed through a shrinking bath 1 in a path extending under a perforated conveyor belt 6 immersed in the bath, the speeds of supply and removal of the fabric to and from the bath and the speed of belt 6 being so mutually adjusted that practically no tensile stresses occur in the fabric, and the latter is caused to follow a path of movement extending substantially along the underside of the belt 6. The fabric is fed into the bath from roll 13 by feed rolls 11 and withdrawn over roll 17 and the speeds of rolls 11, depositing roll 12, belt 6 and roll 17 are adjusted accurately relative to one another, depending on the degree of shrinking of the fabric, by means of known continuously variable transmissions and/or separate variable speed motors. Shrinking liquor is fed to the bath 1 by perforated tube 8 extending across bath 1 and discharged through perforated tube 9, these tubes being connected by an external circulating system (Fig. 4, not shown) including pump 41, filter 42 dosage apparatus 43 and heater 44. In the bottom of vessel 1 a battery of ultrasonic oscillators 18 is arranged for emitting ultrasonic vibrations towards the fabric on the lower run of belt 6. After withdrawal from bath 1 the fabric is fed into a neutralising and washing vessel 19 (Fig. 2, not shown) where it is conveyed on the upper surface of belt 25. The vessel 19 is divided by partitions 20 into three collecting tanks 22, 23, 24 with overflow troughs 31-35 arranged above the upper run of conveyor 25. Trough 31 is supplied with cold water and the collected liquor in tank 22 is fed back to trough 32 and so on, the liquor being heated and having a neutralising agent added before it is fed to trough 35 (Fig. 5, not shown).
