Abstract:
An administration set is configured to couple to a control module of a peristaltic infusion pump. The set can include a pressure plate and a peristaltic tube. The pressure plate can have attachment features structured to mate with corresponding attachment features of the control module such that the pressure plate is maintained in a fixed position relative to the control module. The peristaltic tube can include a first portion having first inner and outer diameters, a second portion downstream of the first portion having second inner and outer diameters, and a transition portion between the first and second portions. The peristaltic tube can be located along the pressure plate and positioned such that when the attachment features of the pressure plate and control module are mated, an expulsor of the control module engages the first portion and an air-in-line detector of the control module engages the second portion.
Abstract:
A method for pairing a portable device with a medical device can include displaying an association code on a dynamic display of the medical device and determining whether the portable device is positioned relative to the medical device within a predetermined range of positioning parameters. If the portable device is positioned relative to the medical device within the predetermined range of positioning parameters, the method can include optically reading the association code from the dynamic display of the medical device with the portable device. Only if the portable device is positioned relative to the medical device within the predetermined range of positioning parameters, and the association code is optically read from the dynamic display of the medical device with the portable device, then the method can include pairing the portable and medical devices such that the medical device responds to commands sent from the portable device to the medical device.
Abstract:
A tip protector for a safety catheter includes an outer member releasably engaged with the interior cavity of the catheter hub. The outer member includes a generally fixed radially outwardly projecting portion to provide a holding force, and an inner member axially shiftably received within the outer member. A needle cannula received in the inner and outer members is operable to axially shift the inner member between a distal position wherein the distal tip extends distally of the tip protector, and a proximal position wherein the distal tip is within the outer member. The holding force of the outer member to the interior wall of the catheter hub remains substantially constant irrespective of the position of the inner member between the distal and proximal positions.
Abstract:
A pressure plate is configured to be coupled to a control module of an infusion pump. First and second securing hooks may extend away from a major surface of the pressure plate proximally to a first end. Each of the securing hooks may be structured to reversibly and hingedly couple to a hinge pin of the control module. An arch may extend away from the major surface proximally to a second transverse end and be structured to be received by a latch receptacle of the control module. The pressure plate may be secured to the control module by the securing hooks and arch. Each of the securing hooks may include a bearing surface configured to bear against a hinge pin when the pressure plate is secured to the control module, each bearing surface being parallel along the longitudinal axis with respect to the first major surface to within five degrees.
Abstract:
A pump has a housing having at least one inlet, one outlet, and an internal track with a given configuration. A piston movably positioned inside the housing has at least one protuberance movably mated to the track. As the piston is reciprocally driven by a motor, it is guided by the movement of the protuberance along the track to move bidirectionally along the housing and selectively rotate such that when the piston is moved to a first position, a fluid path is established through the inlet to enable fluid to be input into the housing. When the piston is moved to a second position, another fluid path is established through the outlet so that fluid is output from the housing. Multiple chambers may be formed in the housing to enable synchronous and selective opening and closing of respective inlets and outlets to enhance fluid flow.
Abstract:
A medical tubing set can comprise a fluid conduit adapted to convey a medical fluid; an optical element coupled to the fluid conduit and configured to provide illumination; and a power source configured to power the optical element. A method of operating a medical tubing set, the medical tubing set comprising a fluid conduit adapted to convey a medical fluid, an optical element coupled to the fluid conduit and configured to provide illumination, and a power source configured to power the optical element, can comprise installing the medical tubing set in a medical device at a first end and in a patient at a second end; providing a source of power with the power source; applying the source of power to the optical element; and illuminating the fluid conduit with the optical element.
Abstract:
A combined detectional and positional sensor for a syringe pump. The sensor can comprise a syringe thumbpress clamp that is pivotable so that an engagement pin deflects a linear membrane potentiometer first circuit thus providing a closed switch for detection of a syringe in the pump and a variable signal return for indication of plunger head position. Embodiments of the sensor can be used in relatively large syringe pumps and in relatively small syringe pumps, for example.
