Abstract: In general, embodiments of the present disclosure describe a method of sulfur polymerization including preparing a monomer solution. The monomer solution includes sulfur, at least one monomer selected from a vinyl-monomer group including styrene, n-butyl methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, and mixtures thereof, one or more surfactants. The method includes preparing a reaction solution. The reaction solution includes water, combining the monomer solution with the reaction solution, agitating the reaction solution and the monomer solution, adding a free radical initiator, and increasing a reaction temperature.

Abstract: There is provided a system and method for collecting water droplets from an airflow of a cooling tower (8) through condensation of water vapour using an electrostatic separator (20), wherein the electrostatic separator is a single unit electrostatic separator (20) or a multi-unit electrostatic separator. The method for water particles collection from the exhaust airflow of a cooling tower primarily comprises condensing water vapour into large water droplets. It is experimentally proved that electrostatic separation solves the problem of visible plume pollution, and blow down decreased since collected water flows back to the circulating water. Additionally, electrostatic separation results in small pressure drop of the cooling tower (8).

Abstract: There is disclosed a hybrid composite anode for lithium-ion batteries comprising silicon nanoparticles, multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) flakes, and a polymer binder which enables enhanced capacity retention of the hybrid composite anode. A process of fabrication of an anode for a lithium-ion battery is also disclosed, the process comprising the steps of fabricating carbon nanotube (CNT) mats on an anode current collector; dispersing the fabricated CNT mats in a mixture of deionized (DI) water to ethanol using a probe sonicator and magnetic stirrer; and adding silicon nanoparticles, multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) flakes, and a polymer binder to the mixture, forming Si-MWCNT nanocomposite (SMC) anodes.

Abstract: The application discloses a compact, multiport converter for interfacing photovoltaic (PV) panels to an energy storage system of a CubeSat. The multiport converter includes a series of connected half-bridge modules, fed by PV panels, that supplies the energy storage system. Further, a control strategy allows the multiport converter to extract a maximum amount of solar power from PV panels under varying irradiation conditions. One example multiport converter includes a multiple-input multiple-output converter that achieves a smaller footprint by utilizing a single inductor for transferring energy. Some aspects also enhance a fault-tolerance capability of CubeSats using a new EPS architecture, for example, by providing independent converters for maximum power point tracking of PV panels. The fault-tolerance capabilities are further enhanced by a new power-down mode for generation and load-side converters.
