Abstract:
A method for preparing a more reliable connection between two members (2, 4) is provided. The method involves the use of a gas-removal layer (6), which allows for gas transport in a number of overall directions in a plane of the gas-removal layer. The gas-removal layer comprises a resin (12) and during consolidation the gas-removal layer is deformed to form a collection substantially free from entrapped gas voids. Furthermore, a gas-removal layer is provided as well as a mould for casting of gas-removal layers and a method for preparing such a mould. The method and the gas-removal layer provided are particularly useful for manufacturing of wind turbine blades and spars for such blades.

The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of short or discontinuous lignocellulosic fibre in combination with synthetic fibre filled thermoplastic composites, in which the process consists of preferably, defiberization and dispersion of the cellulosic fibres in the thermoplastic matrix, further consolidation and dispersion of the blended thermoplastic composition, further blending of the same with inorganic fibres to get the moldable thermoplastic composition and further injection or compression or compression injection molded under high pressure ranging from 100 tones to 1000 tones and a temperature range from 170 to 210 degree centigrade into composite products. The said composites have a tensile strength of at least 75 MPa and a flexural strength of at least 125 MPa. The invention also relates to the use of the said composites in automotive, aerospace, furniture and other structural applications.

An extruded wood imitation component and process is described. The component has a solid core containing coloured polymer material formed from a mix of coloured thermoplastic polymer with veins of contrasting coloured polymer throughout the core and on outer surfaces of the component simulating natural wood. In the extrusion process the mixture includes coloured polymer pellets of different colours and sizes which are mixed and melted in an extruder under controlled conditions to provide contrasting streaks of molten polymer throughout a molten extruded core and on outer surfaces of the core of the extrudate which exits the land of the die.

Low moisture processed cellulose fiber pellets useful in the manufacture of cellulose fiber reinforced polymer products and materials, and an extruder-less process for forming such low moisture cellulose fiber pellets from wet processed cellulose fiber-based waste source materials. The cellulose fiber pellets include processed cellulose fibers and mixed plastics and/or inorganics such as minerals, clay, and the like, and have a moisture content of about 0.1 to 14% by weight. The extruder-less process includes the steps of drying, grinding and pelletizing in a manner capable of forming low moisture cellulose fiber pellets from wet processed cellulose fiber-based waste source materials having a moisture content of about 40-80% by weight.

The present invention provides composites prepared from melt blending compositions that generally include cellulosic pulp fibers having an alpha-cellulose purity of greater than 80% by weight, at least one water soluble binder, at least one lubricant, at least one compatibilizer, and at least one matrix polymer. The present invention further provides advantageous temperature profiles and feeding arrangements to be used in conjunction with the melt blending of such composites. The composites of the present invention exhibit reduced discoloration and improved fiber dispersion.

A method for manufacturing cigarette filters which have a well-stabilized shape in which acetate fibrous tows impregnated with carboxylic acid ester of polyol are formed into a predetermined shape, uniformly impregnated with water, and irradiated with microwave energy. Water is used during the application of microwave energy to enhance the absorption of microwave energy and hence heating of the filter. This causes the carboxylic acid ester of polyol to very rapidly disperse causing it to permeate into the acetate fiber to rapidly complete the stabilization and solidification of the filter.
