    Abstract: A system for controlling and configuration of an occupant evacuation operation (OEO) in a multi-story building has an elevator control system, a fire alarm detection system with a plurality of fire sensor devices, wherein the fire alarm detection system generates fire alarm information signals, and a central control system coupled with the elevator control system and the fire alarm detection system. The central control system has a data processing system with a processor and memory which provide a configurable model of the multi-story building, receive signals from the fire alarm detection system and receive signals and transmit control signals from/to the elevator control system. The configurable model allows configuration of the system creating a model of the functionalities in the multi-story building required for the OEO, and the central control system controls the OEO based on the signals received from the fire alarm detection system and the elevator control system.

    Abstract: A method of operating an elevator system is provided. The method includes powering, using a battery, the elevator system when an external power source is unavailable. The method also includes controlling, using a controller, a plurality of components of the elevator system. The controlling comprises operating at least one of the battery, an elevator car, a drive unit, and a brake. The method further includes determining, using the controller, a run profile of the elevator car in response to a selected deceleration. The method yet further includes operating, using the controller, the elevator car in response to the run profile determined, and determining, using the controller, an actual velocity of the elevator car.

    Abstract: A method for testing operation of an elevator including an elevator car includes starting movement of the elevator car; and thereafter starting a stopping sequence for stopping movement of the elevator car; and monitoring movement of the elevator car, the monitoring preferably including monitoring acceleration of the elevator car; and detecting a predefined response in movement of the elevator car, the predefined response preferably being cease of acceleration of the elevator car; and determining time elapsed between the starting a stopping sequence and the detected predefined response in movement of the elevator car, wherein the response is preferably cease of acceleration, for thereby determining reaction time of the elevator; and comparing the time elapsed with at least one reference, such as with at least one predefined threshold.     Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for controlling an operation of an elevator, which is capable of moving the elevator to a near floor by using an auxiliary power supply such as a battery in an emergency situation where a commercial power supply cannot be used, while minimizing power consumption through automatic control. The present invention further provides an elevator system provided with the above-described safety device and a control method for controlling the elevator system. The safety device according to the invention is able to accurately measure the distance between engagement parts and a guiding face of the guide rail in real time.
