Abstract:
Refrigerant mixtures of the HCFCs monochlorodifluoromethane, 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane, and 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane whose composition falls within the area of polygon KLTS of the FIGURE.
Abstract:
Improved apparatus for coating containers having a minimal separation between the body and the finish region comprises a coating hood and means for supplying coating materials to the coating. The improvement consists of a controlled non-turbulent air supply (18) directed downward across the coating-material stream (12). A blower (19) provides process air to a plenum (22), and an angled attenuator plate with a plurality of small holes distributes the process air evenly, to avoid standing waves and regions of high or low air velocity. Several attenuator plates can be juxtaposed to permit removal of particulates by movement of the plates relative to each other.
Abstract:
A method for the preparation of alkanesulfonamides in high purity and high yield using dioxolane as solvent is disclosed. The final products have use as synthetic intermediates for the manufacture of useful final products.
Abstract:
A crosslinkable composition of a polymeric thermoplastic and/or elastomeric material which is susceptible to scorching when processed at elevated temperatures, prior to crosslinking, in the presence of a free radical initiator, is protected against such scorching by the incorporation therein of a mixture of at least one hydroquinone compound and a sulfur accelerator. This mixture may also contain at least one monomeric allylic, methacrylic, acrylic or diene type coagent. The mixture exhibits a synergistic effect resulting in improved scorch protection for peroxide cured systems when compared with the protection afforded by the components singly.
Abstract:
A stabilized halogen containing polymer, preferably poly(vinyl halide), and more preferably poly(vinyl chloride) composition. A preferred polymer composition is a rigid halogenated polymer such as rigid poly(vinyl chloride). The composition contains at least one metal salt selected from the group consisting of at least one carboxylic acid or derivative thereof having at least two carboxyl groups, at least one carboxyl group and at least one hydroxyl group, at least one carboxyl group and at least one mercaptan, and an aromatic carboxylic acid having at least one carboxyl group. The metal salt is most preferably disodium adipate.
Abstract:
Increased efficiency coagulation and washing of latex particles is achieved by coagulating the latex to form particle flocks by application of a combination of mechanical and thermal energy, with up to about 85% of the applied energy being thermal energy. The flocks are thereafter washed by passage in counter-current relationship with wash water. The invention is particularly useful in the coagulation of fluorocarbon latices generated by polymerization, particularly emulsion polymerization.
Abstract:
A continuous non-catalytic process for the manufacture of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane/1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane mixtures from 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane is provided. Hydrogen fluoride and 1,1,1-trichloroethane are continuously feed a molar ratio of from about 3.0 to about 5.2 to form a liquid phase hydrofluorination reaction mixture. Vapor phase reaction product is continuously withdrawn from the reaction zone, and hydrogen fluoride is continuously selectively refluxed back to the reaction mixture. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane utilization approaches 100%, with selectivity for 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane between 15% and 85%, based upon the amount of 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane and 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane contained in the gaseous reaction product.
