Abstract:
A relatively low resolution touch screen system is utilized in a graphic display environment wherein the resolution of the graphic display is relatively high. The character resolution yields a low target resolution, a single character being the target (or the desired character). The method zooms a predetermined number of characters around an initially reported position into a zoom window, the zoom window being an area of the display screen relative to the initially reported position, the center of the zoom window displaying a cursor character. The zooming increases the character resolution such that target resolution is decreased to a value resulting in a touch screen resolution at least equal to or higher than resolution of the target resolution. Further, as the stylus is moved toward the desired character, a new center position of the data to be displayed in the zoom window is calculated, the new center position following the pointer element at a predetermined speed. When the desired character is over the cursor, the pointing element iswithdrawn, the current position of the pointing element utilized to identify the position of the desired character, and thus the desired character itself.

A ring laser gyro (10) comprising a ring laser gyro block (24) having a gain bore (11, 12, 13) filled with a gain medium and apparatus for transmitting RF energy embedded within the ring laser gyro block (24) proximate to the gain bore (11). The RF energy apparatus (30) may be located so as to encompass the gain bore. Apparatus for providing RF energy (30) is connected to the RF energy transmitting apparatus (22, 40, 42).
Abstract:
A controller for a climate control system has a humidity sensor (14) as well as a temperature sensor (15) within the enclosure (12). The humidity temperature value is used in connection with the dry-bulb temperature to generate a single error signal which is a function of both the temperature and the humidity values. This permits control of both enclosure temperature and enclosure humidity without abnormal cycling of the climate control system. Instead of using a sensor which directly measures the humidity temperature, the humidity temperature can be synthesized from the relative humidity and dry-bulb temperature within the enclosure.
Abstract:
The liquid crystal display includes a patterned mirror disposed between the backlight assembly and the black matrix to reflect light back into the backlight assembly that otherwise would impinge on the black matrix. Apertures through the patterned mirror are so shaped that parallax effects with respect to the black matrix provides desirable luminance versus viewing angle profiles.
Abstract:
A direct digital dither drive for a laser gyro dither motor (244B) including a digital microcomputer (100) which controls the dithering of a laser gyro (10) to prevent lock in of the laser beams. The digital drive senses a dither position and schedules internal A/D conversions using an A/D conversion arbitration scheme. The period frequency and location of the minimum and maximum drive are determined using the microcontroller (100). Accurate dither drive is accomplished using a digital analog feedback system which compensates for real time changes in dither pickoff (244A) and dither (244B) drive components.
Abstract:
A dither stripper for laser gyro dither (244) including a digital microcomputer (100) which controls the stripping of the dither signal from the inertial navigation signal of the laser gyro (10). The dither stripper schedules internal A/D conversions using an A/D conversion arbitration scheme as well as calculates the expected system sample clock. Accurate dither stripping is achieved using a phase locked loop feedback system which compensates for real time changes in dither pickoff components while incorporating an accurate gain control mechanism.
Abstract:
Self-referenced half-tone, gray scale liquid crystal display having pixels that are subdivided into subpixels (A1...AN). Each of the subpixels have transparent electrodes (31-39) with a liquid crystal material sandwiched between the electrodes. The electrodes of each subpixel and the liquid crystal dielectric constitute the subpixel capacitor which also functions as a control capacitor for the control capacitor. Each of the subpixel electrodes on one end of the dielectric overlap another subpixel but the electrode on the other end overlaps still another subpixel. The structure is such that the subpixel capacitors are electrically connected in series. The subpixels have electrodes of various areas and thus the subpixel capacitors of the pixel have different values. Application of a voltage across all of the series-connected subpixels of the pixel may result in the activation of none, one, or more subpixels of the pixel, in accordance with the magnitude of the voltage; the subpixels having the lower capacitances turning on first as the applied voltage is increased from zero, since the greater voltage drop occurs across the smaller-valued capacitors. Thus, each pixel of the display has a gray scale capability that is a function of the applied voltage.
