Abstract: PURPOSE: A catalytic burner is provided to unify the systems for generating a reduction gas and generating energy and to exclude the need of a separate purifying process by removing the residual oxygen. CONSTITUTION: A catalytic burner comprises many catalytic members(51,53) surface-burning the mixed gas of air and fuel, a secondary fuel supply device(63) installed between the catalytic members to supply a secondary fuel to the combustion gas, and many support bodies(41,43) supporting the catalytic members. The mixed gas passing through the initial catalytic member exists as an oxygen-thick mixed gas. The mixed gas is mixed with the secondary fuel. The mixed gas mixed with the secondary fuel is burned by the reduction gas while passing through the other catalytic member. After combustion, the concentration of the residual oxygen in the mixed gas is decreased. To keep the zero degree concentration of oxygen, the temperature of the catalytic member is over 750deg.C. By unifying reduction gas generation with energy generation, the size of a burner is reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A low NOx combustion method combining catalyst combustion and swirl generation of catalyst layer and a combustion engine thereof are provided to reduce NOx generated in a high load combustion engine by decreasing the temperature of flames to a low temperature not to generate thermal NOx by employing the catalyst combustion. CONSTITUTION: A low NOx combustion method in which catalyst combustion is combined with swirl generation of a catalyst layer includes the steps of burning a mixture(1) partially in a catalyst layer(2) by a catalyst surface reaction for generating lean mixture with the heat generated by catalyst combustion to increase the burning speed of the mixture and generating swirl in the mixture by a rear wake for holding flames, and stabling burning the heated lean burn mixer(1) at a burning speed raised in a flame burning chamber(3) mounted at a rear part of the catalyst layer to discharge exhaust gas(4) with reduced NOx.
