Abstract: A solid lubricating composition useful for lubricating the flanges of railcar wheels and rails and for other similar applications. The lubricant composition comprises from about 16% to about 25% by weight of a polymeric carrier, from about 49% to about 63% of a lubricating oil, from about 10% to about 16% of a solid lubricating powder, and from about 6% to about 16% of a surface active agent, all percentages by weight of the total composition. The solid lubricant composition is mixed and introduced into a screw type extruder wherein it is heated and extruded through a die into a waterbath, forming an elastic rod or strand. The lubricant composition is applied to a surface to be lubricated by rubbing it onto the surface in a thin film. The surface active agent enhances the attachment and embedment of the dry lubricating powder into the surface being lubricated, the lubricant composition serving to reduce both wear and friction between contacting surfaces lubricated thereby.

Abstract: The application of carbon fluoride chloride in dry lubricant compositions is disclosed. The material offers a substantial improvement in lubricating properties over prior art carbon fluoride dry lubricants.The improved lubricant is comprised of carbon fluoride chloride of the general formula (C.sub.y F.sub.x Cl.sub.z).sub.n wherein y is 1 or 2, x is greater than 0 to 1.2, z is 0.1 and n defines an infinitely large two dimensional array of repeating units occurring in this molecule of high molecular weight. The resulting lubricant has improved lubricating properties over graphite, MoS.sub.2 and carbon monofluoride.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulically-operating shock and vibration absorber or damper, having a cylinder closed at one end, a piston slidable within the cylinder, the piston being connected with a hollow piston rod extending out of the open end of the cylinder. The interior of the piston rod and the cylinder define a chamber filled with an incompressible damping fluid. A space is defined in the piston rod separated from the chamber by a slidable separating piston. The space contains a compressible agent.
