Abstract:
A system and method for sealing a shaft disposed for rotation within a casing, where two axially-spaced seal rings of an oil film seal extend around the shaft and define a clearance therebetween. Oil is pumped into the clearance from an oil reservoir and a portion of the oil is received in an annular port defined in the casing between an outer labyrinth seal and one of the axially-spaced seal rings. The oil mixes with a process gas to for an oil and gas mixture. A blower is in fluid communication with the annular port and circulates the oil and gas mixture to a trap where the oil is separated from the process gas and a separated process gas is returned back to the annular port.
Abstract:
Coast-down bearing apparatus and methods are provided. The coast-down bearing includes a plurality of segments each having a radius of curvature substantially equal to an outer radius of a shaft and spaced radially therefrom to define a clearance, with the plurality of segments being configured to receive the shaft when a magnetic bearing drops the shaft. The coast-down bearing also includes a plurality of slots disposed between adjacent ones of the plurality of segments.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for attenuating noise, vibration, and/or acoustic energy in a turbomachine. The apparatus includes a first base plate having first base plate perforations defined therethrough. The apparatus also includes first and second spacers each extending from the first base plate, being spaced apart from each other, and defining a first channel therebetween. The apparatus further includes a first insert disposed in the first channel and having insert perforations defined therethrough, the first base plate, the first and second spacers, and the first insert at least partially defining a first acoustic chamber therebetween, wherein the base plate perforations and the insert perforations are in communication with the first acoustic chamber.
Abstract:
A seal for a turbomachine is disclosed. The seal assembly includes a rotatable shaft having a stepped outer circumferential surface that defines one or more annular protrusions axially-spaced thereon. A seal is radially-offset from the rotatable shaft and has one or more annular recesses that extend radially-outward from the inner circumferential surface of the seal. A plurality of holes are defined in both the inner circumferential surface and the one or more annular recesses of the seal, the one or more annular recesses being axially-spaced from each other and configured to receive the one or more annular protrusions in an interlocking fit.
Abstract:
An auxiliary bearing including a support structure extending at least partially around a circumference of a shaft. A first pedestal may extend in a radially-inward direction from the support structure. First and second beams may extend from opposite sides of the first pedestal in a plane perpendicular to an axis of the shaft. First and second rollers may be operatively coupled to the first and second beams, and the first and second rollers may be configured to engage the shaft.
Abstract:
A method and system for expanding, separating, and compressing a multi-phase fluid. An expander receives and expands the multi-phase fluid to generate a lower-pressure fluid which can more efficiently be separated in a separator. Expanding the fluid also drives a main shaft adapted to drive at least the separator and a compressor coupled thereto. The separator receives the lower-pressure fluid, separates any higher-density components from the lower-density components disposed therein, and provides a substantially dry gas to the compressor to be re-compressed and discharged from the system.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for separating a fluid, with the apparatus including an inner drum wall disposed around and coupled to a shaft. The apparatus also includes an outer drum wall disposed around the inner drum wall, the outer drum wall being configured to rotate to separate a higher-density component of the fluid from a lower-density component of the fluid. The apparatus further includes a first radial vane disposed between the inner drum wall and the outer drum wall and having first contours configured to turn the fluid in at least one of a radially-inward direction and a radially-outward direction. The apparatus also includes a housing at least partially surrounding the outer drum wall and configured to receive the high-density component of the fluid therefrom.
Abstract:
A separator method and apparatus that includes a rotatable drum defining an annular passageway therein, a plurality of blades coupled to the rotatable drum and located in the annular passageway, each of the plurality of blades including a leading section, a trailing section, a concave surface, and a convex surface, the concave and convex surfaces extending from the leading section to the trailing section, each of the plurality of blades disposed circumferentially adjacent to at least another one of the plurality of blades so as to define blade flowpaths therebetween, and a housing at least partially surrounding the rotatable drum and defining a fluid collection chamber fluidly communicating with the annular passageway.
Abstract:
A variable speed compression system that is driven by a variable frequency high speed motor that receives power from a high frequency generation unit that is driven by a high speed gas turbine is provided. The speed of the turbine may be varied to control the output frequency of the high frequency generation unit, thus controlling the output of the compression system by controlling the speed of the turbine driving the generation unit.
