Abstract:
The invention provides a waterproofing membrane which does not require a removable release sheet but which nevertheless bonds to post-cast concrete and facilitates water-tight sealing at membrane-to-membrane overlaps. The waterproofing membrane comprises a carrier and pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) layers, an inorganic particle layer having particulate bodies which are partially embedded in the PSA and which have an average particle size less than the average thickness of the PSA layer, and an anti-submarining nano-silica-containing coating layer attached to un-embedded portions of the inorganic particles to prevent total embedding into the PSA when the membrane is rolled or unrolled, whereby water-tight seams are facilitated between overlapped portions of adjacently installed waterproofing membranes, and whereby the water-tight seam is achieved preferably using only detailing or waterproofing tape and without the additional use of a liquid primer, mastic, or other coating.
Abstract:
A method of grinding an inorganic material in a mill is disclosed. A grinding aid composition is added to the inorganic material. The grinding aid composition can meet food grade and VOC-free requirements.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a composition and method for controlling air voids in aqueous systems such as paints, coatings, sealants, adhesives, mastics, cements, mortar, masonry, or concrete, which comprises the reaction product of an oxidizing agent and a compound comprising at least one polyalkoxylated polyalkylene polyamine, at least one polyalkyoxylated polyethyleneimine, or a mixture thereof.
Abstract:
Lightweight cementitious foams of the invention have excellent dynamic and dimensional stability due to use of foaming system comprising polycarboxylate surfactant foam generating agent, foam stabilizer (e.g., PVOH), and shrinkage reducing admixture to inhibit plastic shrinkage and micro-cracking of cement. The foaming system can be used in conventional cement mortars or concretes as well as with exemplary cementitious slurry systems of the invention, which include an expansive agent, a cross-linking agent for the foam stabilizer. Microfibers can be used in the foam, slurry, or both, to prevent micro-cracking. Cementitious foams can be made without use of autoclave or lightweight aggregates to achieve enhanced compressive strength and thermal insulation properties that compare favorably with conventional foams and insulation materials at comparable densities.
Abstract:
Methods for plasticizing cementitious mixtures having relatively high water/cement ratio (at least 0.40 or higher) are surprisingly improved in terms of dosage efficiency, compared to conventional “superplasticizer” polycarboxylate polymers, when the polycarboxylate polymer is formed from particularly small-sized, specifically selected monomer constituents: (A) polyoxyalkylene monomer represented by the structural formula (R1)(R3)C═C(R2)((CH2)m(CO)nO(CH2)o(AO)pR4) wherein (AO)p represents linear ethylene oxide groups and p is 5-23 and more preferably 5-15; (B) unsaturated carboxylic acid represented by (R5)(R7)C═C(R6)(C(O)OM) wherein M represents an alkali metal, the ratio of component A to component B being 20:80 to 50:50; and, optionally, (C) a hydrophilic monomer represented by (R8)(R9)C═C(R10)(CX) wherein R8, R9, and R10 each represent hydrogen or methyl group, and X represents C(O)NH2, C(O)NHR11, C(O)NR12R13, SO3H, C6H4SO3H, or C(O)NHC(CH3)2CH2SO3H, or mixture thereof, wherein R11, R12, and R13 each represent a C1 to C5 alkyl group.
Abstract:
Surface retarder coating compositions of the invention are based on the use of at least one non-Ordinary Portland Cement (non-OPC) binder and at least one OPC set retarder agent, which are provided in powder form that can be mixed with water at the construction site. The coating is applied onto the surface of a mould or formwork using roller or spray equipment, and concrete can then be cast within 30-60 minutes against the coating. The OPC set-retarding agent operates to retard setting of the concrete so that it can be de-moulded the next day and its surface can be removed using a high pressure water spray to reveal aggregate embedded beneath the removed surface.
Abstract:
The present invention provides cement grinding additive compositions and methods which allow a PVC-safe, powerful, and robust defoaming agent to be uniformly dispersed throughout a broad concentration range while retaining storage stability even in cases wherein the defoaming agent is highly diluted. Exemplary cement grinding additive compositions comprise at least one amine cement grinding additive; an air detrainer selected from the group consisting of (i) ethoxylated, propoxylated fatty alcohol or alkylphenol, (ii) polyalkoxylated polyalkylene polyamine, or (iii) a mixture thereof.
