Abstract:
This invention relates to modified Group IIIB metal-containing bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts and the use thereof in the preparation of alkoxylation products, i.e., condensation reaction products of alkylene oxides and organic compounds having at least one active hydrogen. In another aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing the modified Group IIIB metal-containing bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts for alkoxylation using a Group IIIB metal or a Group IIIB metal-containing compound as sources for the catalytically-active group IIIB metal. In a further aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing alkoxylation products that have beneficial, narrow molecular weight ranges using the modified Group IIIB metal-containing bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts.

This invention relates to modified calcium-containing bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts and the use thereof in the preparation of alkoxylation products, i.e., condensation reaction products of alkylene oxides and organic compounds having at least one active hydrogen. In another aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing modified calcium-containing bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts for alkoxylation using calcium metal or a calcium-containing compound as sources for the catalytically-active calcium. In a further aspect of this invention, processes are provided for preparing alkoxylation products that have beneficial, narrow molecular weight ranges using the modified calcium-containing bimetallic or polymetallic catalysts.
Abstract:
A method for recovering a transition metal such as rhodium from a polar or non-polar liquid by contacting said transition metal-containing liquid with an ion-exchange resin having bonded ionically thereto an organophosphorus ligand; the transition metal can be eluted from the bed using a liquid containing a sufficient concentration of organophosphorus ligand.
Abstract:
A process and novel catalyst for the carbonylation of one or more of alcohols, ethers and ether alcohols to esters and, optionally, to carboxylic acids. The reaction is effected in the vapor state over a solid catalyst comprising a polyoxometalate anion in which the metal is at least one taken from Group V and VI of the Periodic Chart of the Elements complexed with a cation from a member of Group VIIIA of the Periodic Chart of the Elements. Preferably, the catalyst is deposited on a support that is inert to the reaction. The preferred support is silica.
Abstract:
Compositions including a polymer, a primary antioxidant, a secondary antioxidant, and a metal deactivator selected from at least one of 2,2'-oxamido bis[ethyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate] and oxalyl bis(benzylidenehydrazide), are disclosed. The compositions can also include a light stabilizer. The compositions can be used to manufacture insulations for wire and cable. The compositions have improved long-term heat aging and also retain their color when exposed to heat. A method of making an insulation for a conductor, such as a wire or a cable, made from a composition is also provided.
Abstract:
There is provided a polymerization of a sticky polymer in the presence of a catalyst under polymerization conditions using carbon black as the inert particulate material, the improvement comprises conducting said polymerization in the presence of a carbon black that has been treated with a sulfur donor and/or an oxidizing agent.
Abstract:
A catalyst composition for the polymerization of olefins is provided, comprising a bis(hydroxy aromatic nitrogen ligand) transition metal catalyst precursor and an activating cocatalyst.
Abstract:
Granular particles of polybutadiene or polyisoprene which contain residues of a rare earth metal and from 0.3 to 80 wt % of an inert particulate material which is carbon black, silica, clay, talc or a mixture thereof
