Abstract:
The present application includes a process and a microorganism of the genus Lactobacillus that converts glycerol to 1,3-propanediol. The conversion is accomplished by a proprietary microorganism that is easily cultured in glycerol rich waste products of ethanol production, such as thin stillage.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel ascomyceteous fungus, Sphaerodes mycoparasitia strain IDAC 301008-01, for controlling Fusarium plant pathogens, disease symptoms, and mycotoxins in planta and ex planta . Uses, methods, compositions, sequences, and products are also disclosed herein.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions for enhancing an immune response to a selected antigen are described. The methods are useful for the treatment and prevention of microbial infections, such as infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. The methods and compositions include host defense peptides, polyphosphazenes and immunostimulatory sequences to enhance the immune response to a coadministered antigen.
Abstract:
Bacteriophages in genera! and lambda phage in particular are powerful, flexible reagents who have yet to be exploited to their full potential. As discussed herein, the lambda phage head and/or genome comprises an easy to use and highly efficient delivery vehicle for delivering the expression products of a gene of interest systemically or to a particular tissue.
Abstract:
A saponin extract from Saponaria vaccaria and its use for stimulating apoptosis in cancer cells and treating cancer is described. The saponin extract may be isolated from Saponaria vaccaria seed. The saponin extract may comprise one or more than one triterpene saponin. The triterpene saponin may comprise a bisdesmosidic saponin having a molecular weight selected from the group consisting of molecular weight 1448, 1464, 1422, 1526, 1596 and 1688. Bisdesmosidic saponin of molecular weight 1448, 1464, 1422, 1526, 1596 and 1688 isolated from Saponaria vaccaria seed may be used to treat human cancer including prostate cancer, human breast cancer and colon cancer. Also disclosed is a method of isolating the saponin extract.
Abstract:
Described herein is the use of a modified human chemokine, GS-CXCL8 (3-73) K11R/G31P or G31P in the treatment of a number of diseases or disorders, including but by no means limited to pulmonary disorders, inflammatory diseases and disorders, cancers and surgical/ischemia reperfusion applications.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for classifying an image is proposed. The image is first preprocessed by for example adjusting its orientation, selecting an area of interest and removing artifacts, and normalizing the brightness. Subsequently the image is processed by applying a wavelet decomposition and values for a scalar feature of the wavelet decomposition are measured. This value is binned and probabilities for different classifications of the image are determined based on the number of images from a training set that fall into the same bin that have each classification. Improved classifiers are constructed by aggregating the results for different features, and a network of improved classifiers, in which images are processed by later classifiers according to the results from earlier classifiers, is used.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a process for the production of a base complex catalyst comprising reacting a hydroxide base with a polyalcohol, under vacuum pressure, at a temperature in the range of about 60°C to about 220°C, wherein the mole ratio f the hydroxide base to the polyalcohol is greater than about 2:1.
Abstract:
Methods for the treatment or prevention of Gram negative bacterial infection in a vertebrate subject are provided. The methods provide administering an antagonist of bacterial flagellar protein biosynthesis to the vertebrate subject in an amount effective to reduce or eliminate the bacterial infection. Methods for the treatment or prevention of Campylobacter jejuni infection in an avian species or a mammalian species are provided.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel class of oligoheteroaromatic assemblies with luminescence characteristics and composition based on integrated polyheterocyclic polyamide oligomers of multiple nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic of the general formula (I) This novel class of compounds of the present invention is capable of binding to targeted DNA sequence in the minor groove, and thus is useful for genomics applications. In particular, the compounds of the invention binds to the DNA at a binding stoichiometry of 2: 1 ternary complexation with very high affinity and sequence selectivity.
