Abstract: The present invention provides a rubber composition for tires which can improve crack resistance, ozone resistance, discoloration resistance, and tire appearance while maintaining a good balance between them, and also provides a pneumatic tire formed from the rubber composition. The present invention relates to a rubber composition for tires, containing a rubber component having a combined content of polybutadiene rubber, natural rubber, and polyisoprene rubber of 80% by mass or more per 100% by mass of the rubber component, the rubber composition containing, per 100 parts by mass of the rubber component: 0.1 to 8.0 parts by mass of polyether (A) having a glycol ether content of 80% by mass or more and a HLB of 3.5 to 19.0, the polyether (A) excluding Pluronic nonionic surfactants; 2 to 70 parts by mass of carbon black; and 0.3 to 7.0 parts by mass of an antioxidant.

Abstract: Polycarbonate-containing compositions having desirable properties, such as good resistance to environmental stress cracking, are achieved using a combination of a polycarbonate polymer, a compatibilizing agent and an olefinic elastomer. The polycarbonate-containing composition may include about 40-98 weight percent of one or more carbonates polymers; about 0.1-10 weight percent of one or more compatibilizing agents; and 0.1-10 weight percent of one or more olefinic elastomers. The polycarbonate-containing compositions (e.g., polycarbonate blend compositions) preferably have good chemical resistance to medium chain triglycerides. The compositions may be employed in components, such as housings, that require resistance to cleaning fluids used in hospitals. For example, the composition may be employed in components that require resistance to hospital grade tuberculosis disinfectants.

Abstract: A thermally insulating composition comprising hollow spherical silica particles and a coating of a material having a thermal conductivity of less than 0.3 W/m·K on surfaces of said silica particles. In particular embodiments, the low conductivity coating material may be a polymer, such as polystyrene or polyvinylpyrrolidone, or the low conductivity coating material may be a quaternary ammonium salt of the Formula (1), i.e., R1R2R3R4N+A−, with at least one of R1, R2, R3, and R4 being an alkyl group containing at least ten carbon atoms (and A− is a counter anion), or the low conductivity coating material may be phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester covalently bound to the hollow spherical silica particles. Also described herein is a method of thermally insulating a surface by applying a coating of the thermally insulating composition, described above, onto the surface.

Abstract: The process for making extra high voltage cable insulation is improved by using a composition comprising in weight percent based on the weight of the composition: (A) 95 to 99.9% of an ethylene-based polymer; (B) 0.2 to 2.5% peroxide; (C) 0.01 to 0.5% of a sulfur-containing first antioxidant having at least one —S(CH2)2C02R group, wherein R is C6 to C20 alkyl; (D) 0.001 to 0.009%) of a sulfur-containing second antioxidant that does not contain a —S(CH2)2C02R group, wherein R is a C6 to C20 alkyl; (E) Optionally, an organic nitrogenous base; and (F) Optionally, a phenolic third antioxidant that does not contain a —S(CH2)2C02R group, wherein R is a C6 to C20 alkyl.

Abstract: A method for preparing a simultaneous interpenetrating network (SIN) comprising epoxy and vinyl polymers for epoxy thermosets with extended outdoor ultraviolet weatherability produces a durable hybrid network incorporating epoxy resins and vinyl esters. A quantity of epoxy resin is homogenously mixed with the quantity of vinyl ester to form a precured mixture. The precured mixture is cured into an interpenetrating network that is stronger than curing the substances separately. The cured interpenetrating network is a durable coating material that is resistant to damage from environmental exposure, such as ultraviolet light, and resistant to changes in color over time in extended outdoor exposure.

The thermoplastic resin composition includes: a thermoplastic resin including a rubber-modified vinyl graft copolymer and an aromatic vinyl copolymer resin; a light stabilizer including a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) and a benzotriazole UV stabilizer; and zinc oxide having an average particle diameter of about 0.5 μm to about 3 μm and a BET specific surface area of about 1 m2/g to about 10 m2/g. The thermoplastic resin composition can have good properties in terms of weather resistance, impact resistance, appearance, and/or antibacterial properties (activity).

Abstract: A thermoplastic composition comprises, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic composition, 10 to 45 wt. % of a poly(etherimide); 35 to 90 wt. % of a poly(carbonate-siloxane); 0.5 to 20 wt. % of compatibilizer polycarbonate component comprising a poly(carbonate-arylate ester); up to 15 wt. % of an ultraviolet light stabilizer; and 0 to 30 wt. % of TiO2; wherein a sample of the composition has a notched Izod impact energy of at least 200 J/m at 23° C. measured in accordance to ASTM D256; and an at least 50% higher notched Izod impact energy value compared to the composition without the compatibilizer component measured in accordance to ASTM D256.
