Abstract:
The disclosure relates to improved gel/grease compositions as well as grease compositions capable of imparting improved corrosion resistance. The grease includes a silica/silicate mixture that can imparts a relatively high pH and corrosion resistant properties to the grease.
Abstract:
This invention provides oil-soluble complexes of oil-insoluble phosphorus-free strong mineral acids and alcohols. The complexes are useful antiwear additives in lubricating oils, particularly automatic transmission fluids.
Abstract:
A release agent for green sand mold forming contains a hydrocarbon oil as the main lubrication component. The release agent contains a surface active agent as a dispersant and an anion surface active agent and/or a strong basic amine as a wettability improving agent as essential components besides the hydrocarbon oil. The release agent is used in a form of oil-in-water type emulsion by diluting it with water. Since it is possible to dilute the release agent with water, the release agent occupies less capacity during storage and transportation, and since the release agent can increase the water to the hydrocarbon oil ratio of the composition at application, it contributes to improvements in resource saving and safety against fire.
Abstract:
A rolling bearing is composed of an outer race having an inner-race raceway on an outer peripheral wall thereof, an outer race having an outer-race raceway on an inner peripheral wall thereof, a plurality of rolling elements interposed for rotation between the outer-race raceway and the inner race, and a lubricant composition filled in a space, which is defined between the inner-race raceway and the outer-race raceway, at a position where the plurality of rolling elements are disposed. The rolling bearing features: (a) at least one of the inner-race and outer-race raceways is made of steel having an oxygen content not higher than 6 ppm; (b) at least a raceway surface of said at least one raceway has been hardened by heat treatment; (c) the lubricant composition comprises as a base oil a synthetic lubricant having a kinematic viscosity of 60-160 cSt at 40.degree. C.; and (d) the lubricant composition further comprises 18-28 wt. % of a thickener which comprises a polyurea compound.
Abstract:
A composition useful as a rinse aid for metal surfaces and for improving the mobility of formed metal surfaces is described. The composition comprises(A) from about 10 to about 90% by weight of at least one nonionic polyoxyalkylene glycol comprising poly(oxypropylene) hydrophobic groups and poly(oxyethylene) hydrophilic groups, and(B) from about 10 to about 90% by weight of at least one alkoxy derivative of at least one ethoxylated and propoxylated glycol, and particularly at least one nonionic polyoxyalkylene glycol comprising poly(oxypropylene) hydrophobic groups and poly(oxyethylene) hydrophilic groups. A process is also described for improving the drainage of water from metal surfaces and for improving the mobility of formed metal surfaces. The process comprises contacting said metal surface with an aqueous composition comprising water and the above-described composition. The composition and process of the present invention result in lower oven temperatures and reduced coefficient of friction which results in improved mobility.
Abstract:
A high performance lubricating grease effectively lubricates and greases front-wheel drive joints. The lubricating grease has excellent extreme pressure properties and antiwear qualities and is economical, effective, and safe. In one preferred form, the lubricating grease comprises a base oil, a polyurea thickener, an additive package comprising calcium sulfate and calcium acetate.
Abstract:
Group 2A metal greases having a dropping point in excess of 650.degree. F. are produced by a manufacturing process in which water is carefully controlled in the process while conversion to grease is occurring. It is necessary to complete the reaction and dehydrate the reaction mixture before finish oils and additives are added in order to obtain a reproducible grease with a high drop point and a low penetration value.
Abstract:
A process is provided for lubricating and protecting bearings in steel and process mills. In the process, metal is processed in the mill and conveyed on caster rollers. The caster rollers are lubricated with a special grease which enhances the longevity of the rollers, protects the rollers from rust and corrosion, and prevents the grease from leaking out of the rollers. In the preferred form, the grease comprises a water-resistant polymer to prevent the grease from washing out of the rollers and bearings when the metal workpiece is quenched with a high pressure water spray.
Abstract:
A high performance sulfated lubricating grease effectively lubricates front-wheel drive joints as well as other equipment. The lubricating grease has excellent extreme pressure properties and antiwear qualities and is economical, effective, and safe. In one preferred form, the sulfated lubricating grease comprises a base oil, a polyurea thickener, a borated oil-separation inhibitor, and a special synergistic, additive package comprising calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate.
Abstract:
A process is provided for preventing grease fires, which is particularly useful in steel mills and process mills. In the process, when a flame is ignited and approaches a special grease, the special grease emits carbon dioxide to extinguish the flame and prevents combustion of the grease.
