Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the same backup environment for all applications composing the same composite application environment. SOLUTION: Application management information expressing respective applications composing a composite application environment which is a group composed of a plurality of applications to be operated in cooperation is stored. By referring to the application management information, the plurality of applications composing the composite application environment are specified. A plurality of first logical volumes allocated to the specified plurality of applications and a plurality of second logical volumes which are backup destinations of data stored in the plurality of first logical volumes are made to belong to the same volume group. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disaster recovery (DR) technique capable of attaining reduction in equipment cost and further easy operation. SOLUTION: In the DR system, from a standpoint of equipment cost, a physical application capable of log recovery by an inexpensive DB appliance server 400 is adapted when no retrieval is performed. Further, local mirror operation in a sub-site is not performed. From an operational standpoint, the tendency of log application or operation is monitored, and retrieval processing is received according to the progress of log application. When the log application in the sub-site cannot sufficiently catch up, retrieval is not received. Further, when the matching property of a sub-DB is ensured, transactions Tr in progress at the time of retrieval instruction are not undone, but redo processing is performed only to the Tr in progress at the time of retrieval instruction. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely transmit data in a short time between storage devices of a computer. SOLUTION: Storing recovery data means offering mass data sets to a remote destination and comprises offering mass data sets representing data written before a first time after a second time including specific data sets, among which the second time for one set corresponds to the first time for the following set, to a remote destination, offering synchronous data to a local destination, and offering a designator to the local destination in relation to creation of new mass data sets to be stored in the remote destination. The local destination can hold a plurality of maps. Each of the maps associates the synchronous data offered to the map with the specific mass data sets. In response to receipt of a designator related to creation of the new mass data sets, the local destination can point a new map. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transfer or duplicate data between a plurality of storage systems without affecting the higher-level computers of each storage system. SOLUTION: The storage system 100A includes a data set storage area J for storing data sets each including data and update data for managing the data, and a control part 101A. The data set storage area J is divided into a plurality of storage areas including a first storage area #1A and a second storage area #2A. The control part 101A creates a first data set including first data and first update data serving as the update data thereof, stores at least the first data of the first data set in the first storage area #1A, creates a second data set including second data and second update data serving as the update data thereof, and stores at least the second data of the second data set in the second storage area #2A other than the first storage area #1A. Abstract:
A method of journaling changes to system objects. A dummy function is substituted for a system function. The system function is executed under operation of the dummy function. Copies of system objects changed by execution of the system function are generated for journaling. Execution of the dummy function is then completed. Preferably the system objects are OS/400 system objects. The system objects may be program objects, configuration objects, queues and space/memory mapped objects. The copies of the system objects may be journaled for replication on another system. A system and software for journaling changes to system objects are also disclosed.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize n-site remote copying system which is low in cost and in processing load. SOLUTION: A first storage device system is connected to a second storage device system via a third storage device system. When remote copying processing is carried out, the first storage device system transmits a journal having write data and address information showing a storage position to which the write data are written to the third storage device system in response to a write request for writing received from a computer, and requests the third storage device system to write the journal. The second storage device system receives control information including the storage position of the journal issued by the first storage device system and reads the journal from the third storage device based on the control information. The second storage device system writes the write data included in the journal to a disk in the second storage device system according to the address information included in the journal. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a storage is not reusable from an application, by recovering through a user operation a file that has been lost by a user error when the storage is backed up. SOLUTION: Mirroring is carried out between two disk devices 170. Update data to be propagated are stored in a cache device 160 for a certain period of time to delay the mirroring. The previous files are restored from the disk device to be mirrored and the cache device. The update data are stored as the files are associated with one another, and information about the opening and closure of the files is also stored. The opening/closure information is used in the movement of the update data to restore files which are not in the process of being written. A backup method that suits recovery from user errors can be provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
