A curable resin composition of use in water-based paints comprises a water-based product obtained by dispersing or dissolving in water a vinyl polymer (II) containing tertiary amino groups, acidic groups, or both tertiary amino and acidic groups which has been either partially or completely neutralized by an acidic or basic compound, an epoxy and hydrolyzable silyl groups-containing compound (B), and a composition further containing a hydrolyzable silyl and/or silanol groups-containing compound (F).

A one-package resinous coating composition, especially for automobile finishes (A) a resin having a siloxy group, and (B) a catalyst for dissociating the siloxy group. Resinous mixture (A) contains one or more of the following (A-1) through (A-4). (A-1) a mixture of (a) a resin that contains at least one siloxy group and one alkoxysilyl group respectively in the one molecule, and (b) a resin that contains at least one isocyanate group and one alkoxysilyl group respectively in the one molecule; (A-2) a mixture of (a) a resin that contains at least one siloxy group and one alkoxysilyl group respectively in the one molecule, and (c) a compound or a resin that contains at least two isocyanate groups in the one molecule; (A-3) a mixture of (b) a resin that contains at least one isocyanate group and one alkoxysilyl group respectively in the one molecule, and (d) a compound or a resin that contains at least two siloxy groups in the one molecule; and (A-4) (e) a resin that contains at least one siloxy group, one isocyanate group and one alkoxysilyl group respectively in the one molecule.

A process for esterifying a polymer containing carboxyl(ate) groups, by maintaining the polymer at 0.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. where the counterion for the carboxylate groups is a selected ammonium or sulfoxonium ions. Such processes are useful for preparing improved films and coatings, particularly automotive coatings.

A curable composition for paint containing:(A) 95 to 5 parts by weight of a vinyl copolymer having at least one specific hydrolyzable silyl group and at least one specific alcoholic hydroxyl group existing at an end of the main chain and/or in a side chain thereof in one molecule, in which the main chain contains substantially a vinyl copolymer chain and the alcoholic hydroxyl equivalent is from 180 to 2000 g/mol;(B) 5 to 95 parts by weight of a vinyl copolymer having at least one specific hydrolyzable silyl group at an end of the main chain and/or in a side chain thereof in one molecule and having no alcoholic hydroxyl group in the same molecule, in which the main chain contains substantially a vinyl copolymer chain; and(C) 0.001 to 10 parts by weight of a curing catalyst per 100 parts by weight of the total resin solids content.This curable composition for paint has well-balanced properties of good acid resistance, water resistance, scratch resistance, weathering resistance, and so forth.

A one component composition suitable for use as coatings which are excellent in storage stability and coating workability, which comprises:(A) an acrylic resin having hydroxyl group,(B) an alkoxysilyl group-containing acrylic copolymer having a group represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom or a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group, an aryl group and an aralkyl group, and a is 0, 1 or 2,(C) a curing catalyst, andat least one member selected from the group consisting of (D) a dehydrating agent and (E) an alkyl alcohol.

A coating composition useful for a finish for automobiles and trucks in which the film forming binder comprises an acrylic polymer having at least two reactive anhydride groups, an epoxy-containing crosslinker, and an alkoxysilane copolymer. The composition may be used as a one-package system with a reasonable pot life. The composition is characterized by improved environmental resistance.

Benzylpyridinium or benzylammonium salts of a benzenesulfonate anion are useful as a proton-donating curing catalyst ion a resinous system capable of curing in the presence of such a catalyst. The catalyst is characterized by its heat-latent nature and thus does not impair the storage stability of the resinous system at an ambient temperature.

La composición de recubrimiento comprende un sistema aglutinante erosionable que excluye un aglutinante a base de triórgano estaño; opcionalmente, uno o más agentes antiincrustantes; y al menos un aceite de silicón.
