The present invention relates to a composition for prevention and treatment of diabetic complications containing the extracts of Rhus verniciflua, fractions thereof and compounds isolated therefrom as an active ingredient, more precisely a composition for prevention and treatment of diabetic complications which comprises the extracts of Rhus verniciflua extracted by using water, alcohol or a mixture thereof as a solvent, fractions thereof and compounds isolated therefrom as an active ingredient. The extracts of Rhus verniciflua extracted by- using water, alcohol or a mixture thereof as a solvent, fractions thereof and compounds isolated therefrom were confirmed to have inhibitory effect on aldose reductase causing accumulation of sorbitol which is one of major causes of diabetic complications and on advanced glycation end procuct without cytotoxicity, so that they were confirmed to be safe materials effectively used for the composition for prevention and treatment of diabetic complications.

Disclosed is a novel photosensitizer based on polymer derivatives-photosensitizer conjugates for photodynamic therapy capable of being selectively accumulated in cancerous tissues and producing singlet oxygen or free radical by laser irradiation. The polymer derivatives-photosensitizer conjugates for photodynamic therapy are prepared as nano-sized particles, and have excellent selection and accumulation ratio for cancerous tissues. The photosensitizer conjugates can produce singlet oxygen or free radical by a specific laser wavelength. Owing to the excellent selection and accumulation ratio for cancerous tissues, the conjugates minimizes photo-cytotoxicity of the conventional photosensitizer having a low molecular amount. Accordingly, the conjugates are very useful as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy with reduced side effects and excellent therapeutic effectiveness.

A method and a kit for detecting a target protein in a sample with a signal amplification strategy are provided. The signal amplification strategy is established for the aptamer-based molecular recognition of a target protein with concomitant release of single-stranded DNA (G-DNA), which binds complementarily to a single-stranded RNA comprising a fluorophore and a quencher ("F-RNA-Q"). The fluorescence-quenched RNA is then degraded by RNase H to result in a fluorescence signal, and the undamaged G-DNA is recycled to yield fluorescence amplification.

An apparatus for identifying a user in a service robot for domestic use is provided, the apparatus comprising a feature vector classifying unit for classifying feature vectors converted from a user voice signal for statistics into a feature vector not causing a user identification error and a feature vector causing the user identification error to thereby set user modes corresponding to the respective feature vectors for each user, and an identifying unit for identifying the user by utilizing the classification result of the feature vector classifying unit as data for the user identification. Accordingly, time restriction caused when the service robot for domestic use identifies who a user is can be overcome, and, the degradation of the user identification due to the lack of absolutely needed data amount when the user is identified only by the user's short voice can be solved.

The present invention provides a device for generating and varying stiffness, which may be applied to a joint of a robot manipulator. The stiffness generating device of the present invention, comprises: a rotating shaft connected to a driven member; a rotor fixed to the rotating shaft and having arms comprising a magnetic element; a stator disposed to surround the rotor outside the arms and being connected to a drive motor; electromagnets fixed to an inner periphery of the stator and being opposed to each other about the rotating shaft, each having a core and a coil wound around the core; and means for applying current to the coils. One half of the electromagnets has N-poles at their inward ends and the other half of the electromagnets has S-poles at their inward ends. Current regulating means regulates the current being applied to the coils.

A composite sealant of the present invention increases a fracture toughness of glass which has an excellent gas tightness but has a low fracture resistance, to enhance the thermal cycle stability while maintaining the gas tightness of a stack. For this, alpha-alumina fiber particles, alpha-alumina granular particles, and metallic particles are mixed and added to a glass matrix for remarkably increasing the fracture toughness from 0.5 MPa • m05 to 6 MPa • m°'5 through the multiple effects of crack deflection and crack bridging by the fiber and granular particles, and effects of crack arresting and plastic deformation by the metallic particles. When using the high fracture toughness composite sealant of the present invention, since the gas tightness and the stability of the stack can be maintained even when there is a thermal stress produced by a non-uniform temperature distribution or a thermal cycle condition in the stack, increasing the fracture toughness of the composite sealant works as the most important factor for enhancing the reliability of a large-area stack.
