Abstract:
Included are nylon and polyurethane urea compositions such as in the form of powders, beads and flock to be included in extruded and molded articles containing a thermoplastic resin such as nylon 12. The addition of the powders, beads of flock improve flexibility and shape retention of such molded articles, for examples eyewear frames.
Abstract:
The invention includes an apparatus and process for the catalytic production of HCN from a feed gas of ammonia and a hydrocarbon gas by means of heat tubes supplying heat to the feed gas stream and heat tubes for removal of heat from the products. The invention further includes a process for N 2 O abatement comprising transferring heat from an exothermic N 2 O degradation reaction through a heat pipe.
Abstract:
A polymeric, phosphorus-containing composition made by heating, in the presence of an initiator, preferably a free radical initiator, and optionally in the presence of one or more comonomers, at least one ethylenically substituted phosphonylated 2,2'-dihydroxyl-1,1'-binaphthalene or at least one ethylenically substituted 2,2'-dihydroxyl-1,1'-biphenylene. These polymers may be combined with a group VIII metal to form catalysts for hydrocyanation, hydroformylation or unsaturated nitrile isomerization.
Abstract:
Lactams, in particular ϵ-caprolactam, are produced by the hydrolytic cyclization of aminonitriles, in particular 6-aminocapronitrile, in the vapor phase in a plurality of adiabatic fixed bed reaction zones arranged in succession wherein at least a portion of the heat of the exothermic reaction is removed between each of the successive reaction zones. Conducting the reaction in such a manner requires less capital for the reactor itself. It has also been found that the product exiting such a reaction system can be directly fed to a distillation unit without the need of additional cooling or storing.
Abstract:
A synthetic polymer composition comprising a blend of a synthetic thermoplastic polymer and a polymer containing a polyether chain as a constituent, wherein the article manufactured from the blend contains an active compound is disclosed. Yarns may be formed from the synthetic polymer blend and then knitted or woven into articles, such as net or fabric. The articles may be treated with active compounds such as a perfume, fabric softener, sunscreen agent, antibacterial agent, pesticide, insecticide and such other compounds that provide functionality on the article. The treated articles of the invention retain more than an effective amount of active compounds even after numerous washings.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a process for the manufacture of 2-(aminomethyl)-1-cyclopentylamine by low-pressure hydrogenation of 1-amino-2-cyano-1-cyclopentene using a combination catalyst system of nickel with palladium on carbon, or a single palladium-doped Raney-type catalyst.
Abstract:
Commercial spandex can be prepared with greater efficiency, improved consistency and at lower costs from a high-solids content polyurethaneurea polymer solution. The polyurethaneurea is prepared using a combination of 4,4'-MDI and 2,4'-MDI, and an amount of chain extenders and chain terminators such that the polymer solution, prior to spinning, is highly soluble and has an appropriate pre-spun IV and primary amine content. Such spandex fibers, and the fabrics and garments comprising them, have good dyeability and colorfastness, as well as other desirable characteristics.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to compositions of specific carboxylic acid, fatty acid or oil derivatives containing nitrile groups and methods of their preparation. The preparation involves a hydrocyanation reaction. A method of hydrogenating the nitrile containing carboxylic acids obtained by the above hydrocyanation to produce amine containing carboxylic acids is also disclosed in this invention.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of producing compounds comprising two nitrile functions. More specifically, the invention relates to a method of producing dinitrile compounds from compounds comprising a nitrile function and an ethylenic unsaturation, in the presence of a catalytic system containing an organometallic complex and a Lewis acid-type cocatalyst. The inventive method comprises a step involving treatment of the reaction medium resulting from hydrocyanation, enabling the metallic element to be extracted and recovered from the Lewis acid.
