Abstract:
A liquid treatment apparatus includes a dielectric tube through which water to be treated flows, a first electrode at least a part of which is disposed in the dielectric tube, a second electrode at least a part of which is disposed in the dielectric tube at a position upstream of the first electrode, a gas supplier operative to generate a bubble by supplying a gas into the water to be treated, and a power supply operative to apply a voltage between the first electrode and the second electrode in a state in which the bubble covers a conductor-exposed portion of the first electrode.
Abstract:
Assemblies designed to facilitate detection of water flow in low water flow situations. In some embodiments, the assembly includes a channel that narrows from an inlet end of the assembly to an outlet end of the assembly to increase the velocity of water flowing through the channel. In some embodiments, the assembly may also include a water delivery mechanism that delivers water flowing through the channel to a flow sensor and enables the detection of water flow, even in low flow situations.
Abstract:
A ballast water treatment plant, as well as a method of operation, configured for treating water to be delivered into a ballast tank is disclosed. The system and method is configured for, during ballast offload operation and by means of a first backwashing water conduit, lead backwashing water from a ballast water filter to a suction side of a ballast water pump. This way, filter backwashing water is circulated through the ballast water pump and the ballast water filter.
Abstract:
An energy exchange chamber is used for exchanging pressure energy between concentrated seawater discharged from a reverse-osmosis membrane-separation apparatus and a part of seawater to be treated by the reverse-osmosis membrane separation apparatus in a seawater desalination system. The energy exchange chamber includes a concentrated seawater distributor communicating with a concentrated seawater port and configured to distribute a flow of concentrated seawater all over a horizontal plane of an interior of a chamber, and a seawater distributor communicating with a seawater port and configured to distribute a flow of seawater all over the horizontal plane of the interior of the chamber. The concentrated seawater and the seawater introduced into the chamber are brought into direct contact with each other over the horizontal plane of the interior of the chamber to exchange pressure energy between the concentrated seawater and the seawater introduced into the chamber.
Abstract:
In one aspect, the invention relates to a filtration apparatus comprising a tubular inorganic porous membrane and a light source disposed within the lumen of the membrane for use in, for example, enhancing oxidation of organic molecules and enhancing foulant removal. In one aspect, the invention relates to a filtration apparatus comprising a tubular porous membrane and a displacement body disposed within the lumen of the membrane. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.
Abstract:
The present invention presents a removably secured seal for forming a second stage water-tight seal within a two stage cavity filter head assembly for mating with a complementary manifold having cylindrical (male) bayonet ports. The seal includes a base circumferential seal having a center aperture and sidewall members extending axially upwards from the base seal; the sidewall members being insertable within cavities or slots formed in the second stage recess cylindrical cavity sidewall.
Abstract:
Cleaning assemblies and particulate tolerant fluid bearings that are particularly well suited for use in centrifugal separation enhanced filtration devices are described. In one aspect of the invention, at least one bearing is arranged to carry a circulating cleaning assembly such that the cleaning assembly can rotate around a filter membrane during filtering operation of the filtration device. The bearing is preferably arranged to maintain the circulating cleaning assembly in a substantially coaxial alignment with the filter membrane and in a substantially stable longitudinal position relative to the filter membrane as the circulating cleaning assembly is rotated around the filter membrane. In another aspect of the invention a variety of particulate tolerant bearings are described.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an electric double layer capacitor electrochemical cylinder (11) made up of concentric layers of capacitors (16), current collectors (14a, 14b, 14c), ion specific membranes (18, 18a, 18b) and dielectric spacer (20) wrapped around an inner support tube (12) that can be used as a high capacitance capacitor and to remove dissolved solids from a liquid stream such as water, acid, aqueous or non-aqueous.
Abstract:
Aspects and embodiments of the present invention are directed to apparatus and methods of filtering a fluid to reduce a level of at least one contaminant therein. The filtering of the fluid may be accomplished with a radial flow filtration column comprising a fluid chamber having an inlet, an outlet, and a side wall, an inner permeable retainer positioned in the fluid chamber, an outer permeable retainer positioned in the fluid chamber spaced apart from and surrounding the inner permeable retainer, a media bed compartment formed between the inner permeable retainer and the outer permeable retainer, and an adjustable element biased into the media bed compartment and configured to maintain a predetermined packing density of a media bed to be disposed within the media bed compartment.
